2.2 DTi Injector pump
11. Aug 2009 at 19:37

I've started to replace the injector pump on the 2.2 Diesel I bought a couple of weeks ago. I was hoping it would be the injector seal, fuel filter or bleed off pipes but after replacing them the bloody thing still wont start so i'm doing the pump, and what a swine of a job especially as there is no book of lies or much info on the tinterweb and i've only really worked on petrols. I have started by removing as much stuff around the pump so I can see where i'm going so the intercooler and rad are out plus loads of other little bits and bobs. I have got the pump out and the new pump in so fingers crossed by Friday night the old girl will be running, would be sooner but i'm painting the student place in Liverpool Cry. Some pics
Cam cover off
...

Rad and intercooler removed
...

To allow access to this little plate which is the cover for the pump drive chain and sprocket
...
Once the plate is removed it gives you access to the 4 bolts that hold the chain and sprocket to the pump
...

Once that has been removed there is another chain and sprocket which has 4 holes, these holes allow access to the 4 bolt that hold the pump to the casing
...

and the offending item itself
...

Hi, mine died at 90k not good, vx said it was a known fault on these engines, they had done two when mine went in to get replaced (I don't know the layout to attempt), looks like you know what's what on these. By the way - you might want to change the cam sensor while the tops off, as after mine got put back together - they had to strip it down again as it sounded like a bag of spanners (more than normal for a trak engine). After its been fine - but expensive - how much did your pump cost? I could only source one direct from bosh in germany and got it shipped over for vx to install. Vx wanted 1400 quid for the job, got the pump for 600 with 300 to fit. Sad day that one. Regards

Reminds me of when I fitted 2 pumps to my diesel vectra, and it still wouldnt run. Well... it ran on easy start sweet as a nut, but the second I stopped spraying it, it died. Gave up and sold it as a non runner in the end.

I thought it was a fuel pump, not sure about injector pumps, that'll teach me to read.
