What tyres would you use on your Omega? (Could this end up like the oil thread??)
I am just pondering what rubber to buy when my tyres need replacing. I saw the autoexpress tyre test on the internet about stopping distances with 3mm and 1.6mm tread depths at motorway speeds in the wet. The more worn tyres took over 6 car lengths more to stop the same vehicles, got me thinking a bit :-/.  i thought better check the tread depth, which fortunately were all above 3mm. :)
I just wanted to canvass everybody to see what type of tyre the recommend or use on their Omegas.

Opinions please :)

My MV6 runs on Dunlop Sport 9000 235/45ZR17

The CDx runs Continental Premicontact and Uniroyal, both are superb wet and dry, the Uniroyals are also very quiet.

The MV6 is running Goodyear NCT5's which also seem very good.

Michelins are to hard for an Omega in my opinion, after 12 months or so they get a shiney look to them and makes the rear very tail happy and can even give understeer! So basicaly over priced rubbish!

Mine has got Nankangs NS2's all round, budget tyre at around £45 each (plus £7/tyre to get them fitted)....but i have had no probs with them, they grip ok and seem to be wearing ok.
Dont know how they would cope with V6 power tho.

I have got a set of budget tyres on at the moment.  Grip well in dry, don't know about the wet, yet, quiet too. will let you know about wear rate.

£42 per corner inc fitting, balancing and disposal.  Made by a firm called Wan-Li, Chinese, I thought. Spotty youth at tyre centre recons they're German!

RolandL beware!!! I've got Wanli S-1088s on the rear of my 2.5 estate. They were fitted just before I bought the car for the MOT. Wet grip is nil, zero, nix, three tenths of b*gg*r all !!!

Yes, I have Wan Li tyres on the front of the Senator (came with them) and I am less than convinced by their capabilities!

Through use I can recommend Continental PremiContacts and Dunlop SP Sports.

Avon ZZ3's are pretty a good all-rounder. Cost me £360 inc. VAT and fitting for all four (225/55R16's on a 2.5 V6 pre-facelift elite). Described as "the cheapest of the decent brands" by the supplier ...

Oh S**t,   :( :( looks like I'm in for a tough Autum/Winter, lets hope it doesn't rain !!

I do tend to stick with the branded 'quality' makes as they tend to be very good and consistent.  The unbranded/ultra budget makes always seem to be a bit of a hit and miss affair, even amongst same brand/model. The budget ones tend to be noisier in my experience.

At least with branded/quality tyres, you know Michelins will always give you longevity, Dunlops, Avons etc give supreme grip, and Contis sit in the middle, giving good compromise...

I've said it before, but my life may depend on those tyres one day, so I want to be able to depend on them.

So what is best in marginal grip situations?

As far as the Omega is concerned, I can only comment on the Sport 9000 on my MV6. Excellent grip in all conditions...

I'm running Pirelli P6000 on the rear and Sonar (???) on the front (as it came) Not noticed any problems with it yet and I've had the barge (2.0 auto estate) for a year now, but then i normally just tootle around the countryside with the kids on board, so not really into giveing it a bootfull. There again never having driven any other Omega, I don't know what it could/should be like.

Just checked mine,  Ceat on the front and Nexen on the back.  Sound like top quality brands to me :-/

got nanekane on mine and are the best of the budget tyres ive ever had in dry but not great in wet but i do like to go sideways. they are probably summer tyres as are most of the cheap tyres you get. have found that going up in the speed rating is a good way of getting better grip, Z rated on front and H on the back.

My CD has Pirelli P6000's all round, 225/55-16, only had the car 4 days so not had much experience of them  ;)

Have Uniroyal Rainsports 215/40-17 on the Calibra, and cant fault them at all, rain or shine...nothing grips better IMO.

Mine always had Vs on, but that is for a CDX on 16" rims, I guess the MV6 would want to be at least W rated.

The MV6 is Z rated, as I imagine 3.0l Elite (same power/speed etc). The 2.5 v6 is rated to 140+mph, so going to have to be on V but likely W. H is only rated to about 130, so shouldn't be fitted to v6 (it will probably cause insurance issues).

I'll check my car manual to see what it says...

Avon ZZ3 all round - like them so far. Had Dunlops previously but they didn't last.

I"ve had Nankangs on 3 cars now and never have had a problem with them in both the wet and dry....seem to last forever (mind you if i keep a car more then 6 months im doing well).

When im due new rubber thats what will be fitted... :)
