Title: Heater Bypass Valves
Post by JamesV6CDX on 07. Aug 2006 at 17:24
Guys, just a quckie. The "coolant level" warning came on my MID yesterday, just before I needed the car for a long trip, so I investigated, and indeed the header tank was nearly dry. I could smell anti-freeze, and when I looked under the car it was all dripping off the gearbox. So after muttering a few curses, I had a look around, and surprise surprise, there's a split in my Heater Bypass Valve, and it all leaks out of there when the engine is turned off and the coolant system de-pressurises. It doesn't leak when running!

Anyhow, I have a 2.0l omega parked at my mums - is the HBV on that the same as the V6? If so I'll swap it over, if not - where's the best place to get a new HBV and what do they cost? I best sort it sooner rather than later before it sprays over my DIS pack!

Cheers guys
James

All Omega heater bypass valves are the same so the one from the 2.0 will fit fine.

£26 + VAT trade, unless they have gone up recently

Didn't kn ow the 2.0 had an HBV.

Why is it that they only ever seem to fail on the V6? Cant recall seeing a 2.0 with a failed one.

HBV only fitted on cars with climate - and there aren't many 2.0l cars with climate...

That'd explain that. Can think of one 2.0 with climate.

Hi All

Just for your future info, my 2.0 Ltr Diesel Estate has HBV, the car does have AC and just had to replace it, it is a 2 port and is positioned low down in the engine bay offside front area.

Not a tough job on the dti, not sure about v6.

HBV's didn't only come with cars fitted with climate, my MV6 has one and i only have air con....

Actualy heater bypass valves are fitted to all models with aircon, no point in heating the air through the heater matrix if you are then going to chill it on the condensator!

I stand corrected  :-[

I've only ever seen them fail on cars with climate though...

Fitted to 2.0 Ecos with a/c, might have been a mod on early ones but std by '97.
