Yesterday I started the Omega for the first time in 3 weeks due to holidays and work commitments. When I put the ignition on the ignition lights all lit up and went out as expected but the air bag light came back on again. Does the airbag light affect the MOT (its up in 2 weeks) and is there anyway of knowing which airbag is at fault.

You do need a Tech1/2 to read the fault codes, fix the problem, and clear the code. Often caused by poor connections under seat (do not mess with these unless you have disconnected battery!)

I believe the cheapo Tech2 may be able to do this, but when I borrowed Markjays lead I had problems with it reading codes from the airbag system on my 98 model...

Not sure if the airbag warning light affects the MOT.......i did take a peek at the MOT link Mark posted, but couldnt see any mention of airbags....so not sure im afraid  :-/

Tho i did learn summat i didnt know......i always thought that if you took the spare wheel with you, it had to be legal....this doesnt seem to be the case and they carnt fail you for having a bald spare wheel....tho obviously illegal should you need to use it!

I have the same fault on my MV6.... My hubby's cousin owns a garage and he bobbed it down there and put it on the magic machine that told us that it was the drivers seat air bag.. He tried to reset the fault but it wouldn't :(......He has had a quick look under the seat but hasn't found any obvious faults so the only real way to put the little (annoying) light out on the dash is to pop a new airbag in the seat... Or.....just put up with the light being on  :-/......

There is some good news though...It is not an MOT failure  :)

Two known causes.....

1) A wire damaged under one of the seats, often caused by over enthusiastic insertion of items under the seat.

2) A failed steering wheel squib, not common ......does the horn and radio remote controls still work (if fitted).

The cheapo tech 2 can reset the airbag light.....which is useful.

Ow yes, did I mention that a 4 ohm 5 watt resistor can be used in palce of an airbag.....  ;)

Its an old trick I used a few times when people wanted thier passenger airbags disabling to allow the use of a chil seat.....

Missy, I've seen poor connections on connectors under seat cause same error - disconnect battery, and clean them up, and try to get light reset again...

If you want a real one, they are rare as rocking horse shit....

There's a few tech 2s on fleabay can anyone recommend one?

I currently cannot find any real Tech2 on ebay - they do not come up often, and usually go for around £2k+

The £40 type ones are what we refer to here as the cheapo tech2 lead.  When I borrowed Markjay's one a couple of months back, I had trouble with the airbag stuff (and other stuff as well) in that it couldn't diagnose the fault I'd put on, but would clear the light once I'd fixed the problem.  The software is crap, and the newer software which looks as if it will work better costs £490.

Saying its crap probably is an opinionated view, but I doubt many people who have used it will disagree...
