I knew it would be pricey, but that was a shock.
That is both downpipes, both cats, both center silencers, both rear sectionsm, but no back box. Problem is that they have been grounded so many times, that it not going to be long before it all falls apart. |

its all part of a claim that I have putting against the developers, as it is there road surface that is damaging the system. So hopefully, It isn't me that has to pay it.
And I certainly do not want an aftermarket system (although I belive it to have one on at the moment). |

Sounds right.....
350 per front pipe with cat....two off. 100 quid for each centre section....two off 100 quid for back box.....one off. Thats retail of course. Two Omega centre sections and back box are normaly around the 210 mark trade club. |

If he doesn't want them I'd be interested if they're genuine VX. Mine has a near-new aftermarket system but the noise between 1500-2500 RPM drives me nuts.

I have Had first hand experience of Cipher's driveway, and indeed, I can confirm that I wouldn't want to drive my car over it on a regular basis!
What about your manifold Ben, didn't grounding the V6 on this awful bit of kerb crack that too? I wouldn't like to think what VX would charge to change that, because as you know, going by the book it's a head-off or engine-out job! (I've yet to try the "DTM" method of swinging the engine over...) In terms of price, it's the Cats that will bump it up for you. As mark says, they're in the region of £300+ each. My friends dad works in the parts department of vauxhall, (very handy guy to know) and it's only recently he's agreed to supply me with bits for my personal car at trade price. My new exhaust backbox on my V6, and both mid-sections, came to a total of £119. Like the others say, if you can get the developers of the housing to pay for the damage, then go all out and get the full Vx system fitted! Without meaning to sound at all rude, I seem to remember your V6 is the same year as my V6, (N), with simelar miles, so taking this into account, if you DO have to fork out for a new exhaust yourself, you may not benefit in the long run from buying genuine Vx, if you can get OEM/pattern parts for a much reduced cost, eg. eBay! I know GM parts are best, but equally it might not be in your best interests to spend more on an exhaust than the car is possibly valued at with the new exhaust fitted! Either way, good luck with getting it sorted! Cheers James |

James,
What we all thought to be the manfold/manifold gasket, turnde out to be nothing more than a Manofold to Downpipe gasket. So change the gasket, and all quiet. Done for about £13 using Vx parts. The thing that concerns me is that it is happening everytime now. It is obviously not going to make things better! My g/f's sister came round one day, and the ramp actually removed the exhaust, from the downpipe backward. We just heard a bang, and a very throaty growl. Looked out of thwe window and saw her looking bemused with the whole system on the ground. Cant wait for that to happen to the V6 :-/ |

I think the system i have is an aftermarket one by the looks of it.....I haven't had it on my car, i just bought it as a spare, but at the moment i need the money! Being a student, repairing the Omega headgasket failure, buying a hyundai run-about for the time being, and working at Halfords means that my bank balance really isn't very healthy at the moment!!! ;D :-/

Just to side step slightly for a minute, what was the problem with the downpipe to manifold gasket, symptoms etc? Was it like a tapping noise? I like the possibility of it being an easier fix than the actual manifold gasket itself, providing its the same problem that I'm having!!!

Title: Re: V6 Exhaust System Post by cipher on 15. Aug 2006 at 23:32
The issue with the gasket sounded just like an exhaust blow.
A cracked manifold or a manifold gasket will sound like a tapping on the V6's. Just get under the car with the engine running and feel up aound the downpipe's to check if you can feel it blowing. Do it with the car cold though, as you will touch the exhaust doing this, and they get hot enough to melt human bone! |

Cheers for that. Its another option before I think about actually looking at the lifters. I'll give it a go at the weekend.
