No, you need a V6 pump.
However I suspect the problem lies elsewhere as the PAS rarely fails. Checked fluid and fuse? |

Could still be a wiring fault. I should try and check whether you have power at the pump next. If you don't have a meter, you should still be able to check it, with a bulb and a couple of bits of wire. I know it's obvious, but don't forget to switch on the ignition first. Cos I guess it won't be live otherwise. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] |

It's a '97 v6, the pump is belt driven. |

You're right, it is belt driven. I believe the power steering is speed sensitive, I guess the fuse must be something to do with that. I don't know if a fault on that part of the system could stop the whole thing from working. :-[ |

K41 does get it's power from fuse 14 though. |

We are still assuming the fluid level is correct, I don't see it's been confirmed that it is.

Hmmm, if the PAS is not working that would be the first thing I would check, rapidly followed by the condition of the brake fluid if the car has been allowed to get like this.
I think you need to ensure EVERYTHING is as it should be before looking at tuning this car! When the cambelt kit last changed for starters? Edit: The level may be ok, but the condition of the fuid may be poor (it is an oil so will degrade). Changing the PAS pump really is quite easy by the way. |

the fluid is still somewhat transparent. the car was brought over from england a few months ago and had been serviced prior to bringing it over as it had sat for a little while and the rear brakes were seized. its only had 2 previous owners and has a bit of service history. apart from no power steering and a little oil in the rocker covers it runs fine and doesnt make any frightening noises. all fluid levels are well within their limits and the coolant is nice and blue. the car has done 88k and the lad who brought it over from england is a mate of mine and he did a bit of searching before buying this particular car.

Hi there
I had a similar problem all the levels were fine but steering horrible, what I suggest is feel around the base of the PAS pot is there any evidence of this leaking at all. I had a feeling something wasn't right with mine so I checked my fluid levels and the pot was correct but because it was leaking from the base the fluid in the pipe was lost. The PAS pot is a strange one as when I looked inside it had a false flat piece near the base which held the fluid in. Worth checking HTH |
