Title: losing lots of water Post by angaman on 03. Sep 2006 at 14:37
Hi Guys
one thing after another! got the beast up and running fine - tho idling problems. drove 60 miles and it started cutting out when stopped - idle Control Valve? the coolant level warninmg came on. topped up a pint or so. drove back and coolant level came on again. got home and water pouring out of passenger side of engine bay and fan buzzing on. too late and dark so looked this morning. filled up about 6 pints or so and when started had a buzzing from drivers side of engine compartment. ran on 2000 revs for 5 mins and couldnt see any water leak, but level went down so topped another pint. still no leaking cant see any water in the oil any thoughts? cheers Rob |

Have you checked the hose from the radiator to coolant pipe, that is located at the passenger side, or right bank as you look at the engine. You would only see a major leak there if your stat was opened, i.e. engine at temperature. :-/
With regard to the buzzing when first started, that will most probably be the pump for the self levelling suspension, if fitted. |

usually due to the heater by-passs valve leaking done a few this summer on omega's, should stop if you switch the heater to full.
new valves are around £29 fm vm. angaman wrote on 03. Sep 2006 at 14:37:

Would the HBV cause such a drastic loss in coolant so quickly?
6 Pints seemed quite excessive to me. :-/ |

When mine went, it was a total dump of the coolant as soon as I turned the A/C on.
If it is that much coolant loss it should be very easy to rule out. Remove the wipers and scuttle which will give you a reasonable view of the HBV, turn the Air Con to LO and see if the coolant is coming out of the HBV. HTH Merv |

HBV would be my guess as well, take off scuttle and check. Sometimes leak when aircon off, sometimes when on. Could also be a split coolant hose (Project TB1 split its hose between coolant bridge and HBV)

HBV = Heater Bypass Valve, a fist sized black unit with four pipes connected to it located behind the Plenum under the scuttle below the windscreen look here on how to replace http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1193594464 :y :y |
