Title: newcomer Post by mrgaffney on 11. Feb 2007 at 07:51
Hi all,
As you've all guessed I am new to this forum. I have had my meega about 8 months now and I wont part with her till shes ready for the scrap. Like many I have the 2.5 V6 auto saloon, grey, about 130k, and Goodyear rubber all round. I had a Veccy before that, but after getting the meega I booted her over the horizon - no more dirty understeer! ;D I must say this forum is fantastic. Never before have I seen such a wealth of info on maintaining a car. We all have the Haynes manuals but there is always that personal touch missing, such as that hint or tip, or the 'dont do that it f@#ked mine up' threads. Kudos to you all. :y Following the advice on your threads I recently endevoured to clean out the EGR curcuit, I used to have to do it all the time on the veccy but on the meega it really is a job and a half. While doing that I noticed the right hand rocker cover gasket had blown, so I took it off cleaned out all the oil from the spark plug recess. To my absolute horror guess what I then found?!!!! 2 of the cam bearing caps bolts on separate caps were completely loose!!!! I was lucky not to snap a camshaft in the many miles I have driven since I bought her. It seems that it stems from the previous owner who at about 88K had passed the timing belt change quite considerably and the inevitable damage ensued. He had the engine rebuilt at some considerablke cost but my guess is the mechanic got the torque wrong and the vibrations have spun it loose!! Lucky eh?! Wondering whether to check the other side.......... Gaffers |

Hello & welcome. You can find any info on Omegas here!
I had a loose cap on one of my cams. Worrying thing was that the engine had never had any work done on it apart from cambelts! The cam covers had never been off. |

Hi Gaffers and welcome. I know it would be a pain to check, but better safe than sorry. Recomend a tube of black sealent from Vx though to stick the cover back down again mate.
