Title: Lights on chime.... Post by Marks DTM Calib on 04. Apr 2007 at 07:58
With the drivers door open, no keys in the ignition and the headlight turned on....where does the warning chime come from....
Its possible there are two places dependent on year of manufacture......so a quick poll to see.... |

No keys in ign when I tested mine. Very strange. It sounds to be coming from same place as the 'keys in' warning... |

Both the steady buzz of the 'keys in' and the dee dah of the 'lights on' come from the same area of my car. I've never actually looked exactly where the 'keys in' alarm come from though. |

What model year is yours (Is the last letter of VIN a W or and X)? I'm guessing 99 (X in VIN) due to ccrt700 |
Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by Bo Bo on 04. Apr 2007 at 11:08
Yep, it's X....
|
Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by Marks DTM Calib on 04. Apr 2007 at 17:31

Good point, both mine have HIDs... Really don't recall where the noise came from on the 96 CD I had last year. |

Checked mine last night - coming from the glovebox. Mine is a '98 minifacelift.

Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by Marks DTM Calib on 05. Apr 2007 at 09:37
Its weird.....I have 3 sets of wiring diagrams from different years......they all show the headlight switch as the warning buzzer......its a good job it is on the facelift as I have removed the keys in buzzer coz it was annoying!
|
Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by x25xe on 05. Apr 2007 at 11:24 Marks DTM Calib wrote on 05. Apr 2007 at 09:37:
I find it annoying too. Where is the buzzer and is it easy to remove? |
Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by RossPhim on 05. Apr 2007 at 11:32
99 mini-facelift, xenons & buzzer @ light switch

Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by Marks DTM Calib on 05. Apr 2007 at 12:52 x25xe wrote on 05. Apr 2007 at 11:24:
Dead easy....its behind the glove box, you can get to it by lying in the passenger foot well, removing the cover on the bottom of the dash and reaching up.....just remove it from its base.....its white with a few slots in the top.... |
Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by x25xe on 05. Apr 2007 at 13:04 Marks DTM Calib wrote on 05. Apr 2007 at 12:52:

Errr? :-? Read all the posts above!!! That's the whole point of the poll. All our cars are exactly the same but different! Mine's a 99 mini face lift with HIDs and my 'keys in ' buxzzer along with the 'lights on' are both by the glove box. |
Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by TheBoy on 05. Apr 2007 at 21:56
Andy B, is yours a 99MY (X last letter in VIN)?

Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by Kevin Wood on 06. Apr 2007 at 20:41
Well, my head was in the driver's footwell today and I remembered this poll. Mine comes from a little white relay-like object with a louvred cover in the relay panel under the fusebox cover. So driver's side but not the switch.
I wish I'd had the presence of mind to pull it out while I was working on the stereo instead of letting it slowly drive me insane. (Had to have gearbox out of "P" for access, had to have driver's door open, wouldn't let me remove keys!) Kevin |
Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by TheBoy on 06. Apr 2007 at 21:04
TIS shows it in the relay panel next to fusebox for 98 cars. And in the headlight switch :-/. It does not show it near glovebox, which is where mine appears to come from.

Keys in buzzer!? no chance! ;D haha |

So do i......but i get round it by taking the ign key out and bunging it back in again.....shuts the noise up....but i do have to press the volume button on the stereo to turn the radio back on again . |

Title: Re: Lights on chime.... Post by JohnM on 13. Apr 2007 at 18:29
Both glovebox (for now, but I can image the peace with one removed ...)
But not enough to bring the glovebox into the lead :( |

next time pop the gearbox selector lever cover up (hooks in at end nearest ashtray, clips in at handbrake end - note that on the facelift it's the entire black plastic bit as opposed to just the gaiter on pre and mini facelifts), you can then push down the yellow tab on the left of the selector and move it out of park :y |
