I need a big estate now and I've decided that an Omega is the very chap for me :y

While I was searching for an Omega to buy I stumbled on this site, its great I had no idea there was an Omega site.

As I can't put a wanted ad on yet I thought I'd ask in here if any one has or knows of any Automatic diesel estates for sale?

Also I've been told that the older 2.5 BMW engine is the better diesel is this true

Any help or advice would be greatly received

Welcome to the forum. TheBoy is the resident BMW diesel expert but I don't think he would agree that it is the best engine.

As to the BMW 2.5TD engine....   ....errr, no comment!  :-X


Actually, I suppose I should comment.

Just because it has a BMW badge on it doesn't make it any good.  In fact BMW stuff is generally poor quality, but thats a different story.

The 2.5TD engine in the Omega is the BMW M51 TDS unit.  It is detuned in the Omega, making it a bit sluggish.  A user here, Omegatoy, can provide chips which give better economy, and stronger performance. I have one in my (poorly) tractor, and it is thoroughly recommneded.  In fact, the standard engine as supplied is utter rubbish - the chip makes it so much better to drive, and increases the mpg as well :y

If you get an auto, expct the gearbox to give up - Vauxhall fitted a weak box (AR25).  You will need to replace this with an AR35, esp if you chip it (alledgedly, it was Vauxhall wanting to use the cheaper box is the reason for the detune).

Economy (hard for me to be too certain, as mine currently has a cracked head). Abysmal around town, excellent on a run.  The average reading on mine at the moment is 40mpg.  I'm not light footed, but it has done a couple of motorway runs lately.

Little experience of the 2.2DTi - it certainly lacks the smoothness of the 2.5TD.

Do you need a diesel?  v6, esp the 2.5 in manual form, is pretty economical - on a par with diesel around town, but loses out on a run.  LPG converted V6 may be an option, though you lose your spare wheel...

:)22/23mpg round town 35mpg on run. 2.5V6 manual, 99k. Today went from Immingham to Derby, over to Kettering, & back home to Immingham with a little running around.
   Put £40 in did alittle over 300 mls & gauge reads higher so not bad for any big car.
      The V6 sounds nicer than any diesel but it's a shame vx did'nt build a better one as diesels have thier merits. 8-)
