When you disconect the brake pad sensors it should come up on the MID as a fault, but it doesnt on mine!  :(
both the sensors are disconected at the moment cos of painting the callipers so whats gone wrong :question :-?

I don't think they do come up on the MID when disconnected....... I think they only come up when the sensor end gets cut by the disc, thus going to earth and bringing on the warning.

with yours being a 1994 GLS, i doubt it will display as you will have the TID not MID....

Do you have your radio text at the top or bottom of the display?

as Dazzler says as long as the sensor is in one bit you will not get a fault, all they are is a loop of wire which when the pad wears down causes the loop to contact the earth through the the disc etc and sends the signal back to bring on the warning  :y so you have nothing to worry about they should not be on  :y I would say if you have wear sensors fitted you will have the warning system fitted as they are a fairly expensive item to fit if not being used retail for them is £9.10

Will a 2000 TID display any of those? As in another thread, I had sensors on my brakes but not sure where it would display if at all...

no TID's support brake/coolant/oil issues.

If your radio text eg 'Radio 1' is at the bottom of a 2 part display and on the top section is the outside temp, fuel info ect then it will support other fuctions. If you have the simple 1 section screen it will not.

There are however GID's which are only single layer but are much higher resolution. and support satnav.

Firstly, with the sensor disconnected, it WILL display an error on a MID.  Its a simple system of a loop of wire.  When the pad (and sensor) wears, the loop of wire wears through, breaking the circuit. Nothing to do with earthing through the disks.


As Tunnie quite rightly points out, a TID will not display this - it has no connection to the check control system (which shouldn't be fitted anyway on TID equipped cars).  You need a MID/GID/CID or CCRT700 display to get the warning.  So if all your display can do is radio, time, and temp, you will never get the warning.

Its possible some garage has replaced the pads, and automatically (re)fitted the sensors as well, even though they are not used.

Sorry I was not thinking of course its only a loop I should have realised because I loop them out before to clear the fault before and that was only a couple of weeks back  :-[ must be my age  :-/

That's what I was wondering as mine does display a gearbox error below my TID...

Gearbox warning light exists under TID.

Sorry to mention  :-[ I reto fitted a MID from a cd model same year and manual transmission,

I then bought all the sensors for it all to work,

but what do i believe then :question  :-/
