I picked up my 3.0 MV6 and it's pretty good (for a 150k mile car) but the rear diff is a bit whiney on over-run. I've checked and it does have plenty of (black) oil in there. Does anyone have any experience of this. I understand it's done 150k miles, but is it likely to do many more like this? It's not too loud, and I'm pretty sure a second hand replacement should be relatively easy to come by and fit.

Damn, somebody did this job recently and did a really good guide with photographs. Can't find it at the moment but will keep looking...

Alot of V6's have done more miles than yours but again I suppose, it's only as good as its previous owner. Is still a great car and the diff shouldn't really deem it scrapped. There's lots of experts on here that should be able to offer any assistance they can  :y

Either you can put up with it for now or get it overhauled.....Or my best option is keep an eye out for an LSD and replace it with that ;)

Not 100% certain but I think the Omega diff. is the same as used in Senator/Monza and Carlton estate. If so they can be noisy from new: I know of a Senator that had a new diff. at 6 months old because it was so noisy. But noise does not mean it's about to fail - my first Carlton estate had a noisy diff. when I bought it with 130k. on the clock and it was no worse when I sold it 20k. later.
Provided you don't abuse it, you should have plenty of time to hunt down an LSD replacement.

Thanks for the advice guys. This is a stop-gap car for me so I'm not looking to spend lots of money on it if it's not necessary. I want to keep it driveable and it's generally a good car, I just wondered whether it's likely to be useable for a few more miles without too much worry. Looks like that may be the case. Cheers :)
