Title: tape player problems Post by rds on 24. Sep 2007 at 14:24 My In car entertainment unit (a 2006 model, but not BOSE) unit is too sensitive on the tape auto-reverse. Its ok for about 15-20 mins after start-up but then does into an endless cycle mode shuttling back and forth which is really annoying. Can the unit be adjusted in situ or does it have to come out? If so how it the feature adjusted, if not how do I get the unit out and then how do I adjust? thanks RDS |

You can try a head cleaning tape in there a few times and see what happens.

It might well be a clutch getting weak. The cassette mechanism is easy to get at. Just prize off the top cover carefully with a flat bladed screwdriver and you've got 4 screws and 2 connectors to undo before it lifts out. May be worth checking for anything obvious, or find a 2nd hand unit with another fault (maybe one that's SAFE and has no code) and swap the cassette mechanisms over.
Just trying to remember when I last listened to a tape :-/ Kevin |

Was it the Bay City Rollers again Kev?
The only thing it's useful for the cassette/aux input tapes for the in-car DVD's, Ipods etc. It would be nice to have it working though I guess, so it may be worth taking out and having a look. The unit is actually split into two pieces behing the fascia I believe so shouldn't be to tricky to fathom. I also wouldn't mind betting it's a similar mechanism to the CAR300 head unit etc. EVERYBODY has got one of those at home, usually propping a door open ;D If you're feeling brave and the problem still remains, it might be worth having a tinker. Replacement units are silly money also so hopefully it won't be a big problem. It's usually the CD changer that fails first though! |

I have a spare deck for a CCR2006.
First off though, fast forward and rewing the tape fully to re-seat the tapes on the spools. |
