Title: Cam belt change and idling Post by rds on 24. Sep 2007 at 14:40
Ive used the car over the weeekend since the cam belt change at a main dealer (car is a 53 plate, low mileage) and it IS noticeably noisier at idle than before the change.
is this normal after a can belt change or symptomatic of the tensioner not being adjusted properly, or worse? also there seems to be a high pitched whine almost like the alternator is interfereing with the radio. views greafully appreciated! thanks |

Sounds like they have over tensioned it. I'd take it back ASAP.

If anything the car should be smoother after a cambelt change. Everything will be tensioned and timed up perfectly.
Did they change the auxiliary belt too? They may have fitted too short a replacement. |

Make sure they have aligned the camshafts up properly if the idling is "lumpy" it sounds like it could be a tooth out
