In the brief amount of time I drove my Omega today  ;D I could not for the life of me get the cruise control to work no matter what I pressed...

The display is reading Brake Light Check, yet all the bulbs work... Would this little woosie cause the cruise to not function at all??  Or is there a fuse/relay for it?

And just so I'm not completely stupid, could you tell me the correct way to actually use it??

Yes, that may stop it working...

If you register at the vauxhall site you can download, in PDF format, the owners manual for your vehicle.. this will give you all sorts of usefull information on what various switches do ...  :)

as The Boy says the Brake Light Check can spook the cruise unit.  first of all get to the bottom of that problem (some people have experienced this with ill fitting bulbs)

Second: how to use it.  Above 20mph, press the button with the 'pimple' on it.  Cruise will engage.  Button with dimple = reduce speed or resume.  Bottom button on stalk, marked O  is disengage

Sounds like the brake light switch is not functioning right.

Could be, could also be the obvious brake light bulb. Number of times I have experienced, or people moan about a 'dicky' bulb, they don't really fail from the heat or getting old, it's slamming the boot all the time that damages the filament.

Yeah the brake lights work fine, I've checked the bulbs too and they are all quite a tight fit, nothing loose, but then again they may be the wrong rating for what they are, etc... I'll get some new bulbs from Vauxhall to replace all the lights in the rear and then try it.

Also, whats the best way of testing the pedal switch??  Can it be done using a multimeter at all??  Just if the bulb replacements don't change a thing, I can give that a try aswell :)

Right went to VX today, got a full set of rear bulbs and replaced the lot.  None are loose, there all working... BUT...

Brake Light Check...  :(

Got another lot tried again, same again...

Any ideas??

check brake switch fully working (2 independent sets of contacts)

I'm just going to replace it I think...  Given the car has done 160k, its probably easier than faffin about testing it...

not tc, but around £12 + vat from memory.  Anyone near you with decent code reader that can do live data might be useful ;)

switch can be tested with meter - it will get pricey swapping things without testing....
