Title: Won't idle on LPG, but revs fine Post by JamesV6CDX on 30. Sep 2007 at 18:17
My new project car, Elite V6 - runs well on gas, but refuses to idle on it, just cuts out.
It's an older type LPG kit, injected into the inlet - Car has an oil cooler failure, and I have flushed out the evaporator (if that's what it's called) and hardly and crud came out. Fine on petrol, just gas. Constructive ideas / suggestions most welcome :y |

Sounds a bit like too much gas pressure......is it a mixer system then? .....i think those systems adjust somewhere on the lpg pipework. the vac pipe going to evapourator check for vacuum.

There is no Vacc pipe... and nowhere for one to go :-/ If it's too much pressure, how can I reduce it? |

My kit has a reducer/shut off valve in one and then it sends reduced liquid lpg to the evaporator, hot gas from here to the injectors. So if yours uses simular kit (bar the injectors) then i would have thought you would have a shut off valve/reducer before the evaporator. Also can you confirm that the reducer is getting hot enough? Do you have enough coolant in the system as lack of this could cause the evaporator to run cooler.
Also one other thing - Have you had a flat battery recently? maybe the flat battery caused the LPG ECU to reset to factory defaults... Cheers M |

Do the older systems like this one Have ECU's with adjustable parameters?
If so, wonder if I could pinch Martin's lead and see what's going on.... |

TBH i didnt know wether there would be one on a mixer system. As Omega2000w says they'll be a adjustor valve somewhere.....it'll be gas by the time it gets to the evapourator.....but theres a point as you've just flushed it......make sure the evap is getting red hot.....it should be too hot to touch.....just in case you've got an airlock :y |

I would think it would be......for setting up etc......but it wont be adaptive. Best way to check......find the ECU.....if its programable.....there will either be a socket on it or a flying lead with a socket on the end......either way nothing will be plugged into it. Think Martin's lead/software will be for a different ECU.....unless yours is a Romano system |

You did do the gas side didn't you? |

See if it has an ECU first, my lead suits most SGI systems - so may not do yours, but you are welcome to try it |

Quite a few systems use the same base so it is worth a try, the Romano lead will do OMVL for example |

It appears that generally there is more crud in the gas side (certainly was on mine!) which Martin says is from the artificial smell (so it Garlic!).
Given you have an idling fault, I suspect that the pressure might be a bit high....which is what happened on mine! |

I guess only removal, disassembly and inspection will tell, then! |

They are basically a diaphram and spring device
