Title: Email Message Titles
Post by MutantCav on 19. Aug 2008 at 22:45
Would it be possible to alter the emails from OOF notifying you of messages from members etc to add the members name or something like that...

Currently it says New Personal Message

If your looking back for someones message through your email messages you have potentially 100's of messages all saying Omega Owners Forum as the sender and New Personal Message as the title...if you get a lot of messages then you have to go into each individual one to see if its the one your looking for...especially hard if what you want is not in the 50 incoming messages stored on the forum

Can it be changed to something like (for example) New Personal Message From xxxx (where xxxx is the member name) perhaps?

Would be handy, or the msg subject as the email subject

Yep that would work too...basically need to know its from OOF, the member who sent it and message subject would defo be a bonus :)

... as long as they still contain something predictable to show it's from OOF - so I can still filter them.  ;)

Here's a trick I use, bit radical though...

...I log on to OOF, and check the PM section  :P

I know for a fact I receive more PMs than anyone else (well, I did know, but I need to rewrite the script that does it, as the last upgrade broke it), and don't see it as a problem  :-/ - but then I don't keep the notifications, as email isn't really a storage system  :-/

I'll have a look to see what, if anything, can be done in that area, if if something can be done, we'll discuss implementing it.

Not radical TB but if someone has said they might want some parts a couple of weeks ago or so, then confirms they do later on...chances are the original message from the is outside the 50 allowed stored messages...then its a pain to hunt for their original email request...or if you have a discussion via message or someone wanting various information about an item, their original messages have dropped off the online list by the end of it...50 messages isnt that many if you get a few messages from a few people in a short period of time...

Other reason is time constraints, I read most of my messages purely via the email confirmations...easier for me to look back at previous messages from the same person via email rather than having to then log on especially if I'm in a rush...

Or...you know someone has sent you their address a month ago for some parts...they want some other parts...saves asking them for their address again...etc etc etc

I think this is valid. I like to keep PMs and often don't get round to can't be @rsed to organising my inbox before messages get dumped off the bottom of the list. If I'm receiving them as e-mails, they get sorted into a folder in my main system where they can remain available forever.

To bring this back to the surface.... Thats how it used to be!
was looking for an old message for Tunnie and found they changed between the 28th and the 30th December 07.

Old format  :

New format :
