Title: What are the symptoms of... Post by chrisdb on 20. Aug 2008 at 20:40
Hi everyone
What symptoms would I get if:- 1. There was a fault with the multi-ram intake or 2. One of the plenum bolts will not tighten very much because the thread on the inlet manifold is stripped? The car feels silky smooth when driving at speed but at idle there is slightly more virbration than there should be. Cheers Chris |

lumpy idle is often down to a clogged up Idle Control Valve - right hand side of head undo wiring clip on rear and breather hose clip on front and wriggle out of plenum top then give it a good clean out with carb cleaner :y or could be a leak somewhere else in intake, sure someone else will be along to suggest tips on finding leaks ::) |

Fault on multi ram - down on acceleration/power.
If only one of plenum bolts shagged probable plenum sealed ok onto intakes. If leaking you should hear it. Agree with HerefordElite - check ICV refitted properly - if it is remove & clean it. Don't forget to lube it before refitting :y |

Cool! Thanks very much. The idle control valve sounds like a good bet. I'll take a look at the weekend.

No probs - good luck with it.

Hmm.
I am not contradicting the earlier posts. But if you do still have problems at tickover it may be worth fixing the stripped thread. A heliciol would do the job. Helicoil guide [edit]Corrected terminology[/edit] |

As far as I know the things with butterflies at the front of the plenum that regulate air flow to the intake are still called carburettors. I stand to be corrected. |

I stand corrected. Throttle valves. Housed in throttle bodies. |

No probs. Knew that fuel injected motors didn't have carbs as well :y |

I must say I do agree with that comment. I'll clean the ICV but I'll definately look at the Helicoil - should be cheaper than a replacement inlet manifold! |

You might find you can get hold of an inlet manifold from someone who's breaking a car pretty cheaply. Worth a post in the "Parts Wanted" section. Kevin |
