Title: Electric Bill Post by Skruntie. on 15. Oct 2008 at 19:28
Arrived today based on a fully upto date reading, I pay monthly the ammount of £30.00
DD payment arrives with them tomorrow. Current Debit = £38.18 (-£30.00) Am £8.18 short of being a fully paid up member. Yet they are incrasing my DD from £30 to £49 per month an increase of 61% On the phone they tell me Electric has gone up by 15/16% How do thy justify it? They simply say that New Legislation does not allow them to let anyone fall into arrears. :-/ :-/ |

Phone them up and offer to send them a cheque for £8.18 otherwise next stop will be uswitch.com. It's so easy to dump them these days.

New legislation. I got a letter from barclays telling me that they are not allowed to let me view my loan account on line any more. They will send me statements and all I can view is the running balance. :o

Phone them and tell them what you are going to pay ... they won't argue .. they try it on every year .. and every year they do as they are told .. :y :y :y

I did and they did argue. I asked to be put though to a manger and she said the least she would accept is £41 and if I was not happy then cancel my DD. I asked if they took standing orders . Then asked if I would lose any discount to which it was a Yes to Standing Orders and no loss on discount. Thing is my bill (3 months) is showing a monthly DD discount of -£20.00 (I then get told this is a one off yearly payment add to that particular bill) |

I was going to offer my Dell XPS for OOF server usage but I reckon it uses 600W just keeping the fans going... That & the high noise level is why I retired it. :( |
Title: Re: Electric Bill Post by jimbobmccoy on 15. Oct 2008 at 23:32
just pay the extra and tell them you'll keep your DD the same, they cant force you to py more per month.
Downside is, next quarter, or month, depending on your billing, you may be in arrears and end up having to pay a lump, specially this time of year. Might be worth pying the extra, then setting the amount to somewhere in the middle, eg £38-39. there is no new legislation though. |

They will not accept a penny less than £41. What I find interesting is the fact that they tell I my usage is averaging £36 per month, yet I pay only £30 so why am I not £72 in arrears. Even if you base my usage on the price increase, an extra £6 per month is all that is required, NOT £19.00 EXTRA PER MONTH. |

i think the £19 comes from their guestimated readings, and as its coming up to winter they reckon you'll be using more.
I had the good fortune to live i avery warm flat once and didnt use the heating at all throughout the year, i used to get a check of the gas people for about £100 every april!! Uswitch sounds the best idea. |
Title: Re: Electric Bill Post by Marks DTM Calib on 16. Oct 2008 at 08:08
Generaly you use more in winter so they will be upping it to try to offset that.....but, the first quote does sound to high!
Have to say, I wish my bill was as cheap as that! |
Title: Re: Electric Bill Post by Jay w on 16. Oct 2008 at 08:29
we have just gone from Prepayment meter back to billing.....
We were putting in between £50-£60 a month on the prepayment, i was told my DD will be £40 for the next quarter and from there it will be assessed. However i have noticed that the difference in unit price is huge, i think we worked it out to be about 15% - on that basis my bill should be 15% cheaper per quarter....woohoo.... however i have to say i like prepayment, i feel i have more control over it, but i feel i am getting shafted for that privilige by paying the extra costs >:( |

Wondered why my loan account was not accesible, Least you got a letter i got F@@k all from them. Pissed off with barclays now, been with them 18 years, never been overdrawn and they decide to default my mortgage dd. they charge me £8 and the mortgage company charge me £27. Barclays explain that my account T&C changed in august this year , but I was not notified as shareholders would be unhappy forking out for stationary to let customers know of any such changes and I should go to the bank to see T&C. Barstewards, now moving elsewhere >:( >:( >:( >:( |

The price of electricity and gas SHOULD be dropping like a stone,as it has traditionlly tracked the price of oil.
I did read a report yesterday though which said that the energy industry decided to abolish the link to oil prices a few months ago, when it became obvious that oil prices had gone past their peak. It also said that the government was complicit in this as the industry needs extra money for future investment. I dont know how accurate this was, time will tell I suppose. :-/ |

You dont honestly think they would ever reduce the cost to the energy consumer do you. They just put it up, theres nooooo way they would bring it back down. |
Title: Re: Electric Bill Post by albitz on 16. Oct 2008 at 23:16
people were saying the same about petrol a couple of weeks ago.
the price of energy normally tracks the price of oil,in fact iirc the reason for the last price hike was given as the price of oil. IF they are still using oil prices as a guide for energy prices then the prices should be falling in the same way as petrol is. The fact that gormless Gordons brother is a bigwig in the energy industry (EDF) may be of help to keeping prices up? :-/ |
