Title: A Very Sastisfying Day
Post by Lizzie Zoom on 16. Oct 2008 at 19:29
At last I completed all the work on the miggy that I intended to do for now, and it is running beautifully after of course some problems with a trapped wire, fault codes, and leaking NEW cam cover gasket poured a load of oil down the back of the engine, which is only now after a 30 mile test run today, burning off! ::) ::) ::)

Anyway all cam covers are well sealed now, oil breather system completely cleaned through, new plugs (the most difficult one to get too at the rear of the passenger side engine bank had, by the looks of it, not been replaced for a number of service's!! >:(), new air, oil, pollen, fuel filters, and oil of course.  Not forgetting the fitting of a few new pipe clips, and the complete overall of the rear brakes, with the handbrake now working as it should! :y

Next is the cam belt, due in the next 14k miles! 8-) 8-)

Feel really satisfied now, as at last I have really taken apart, and become familiar with a lot more of an Omega than ever before! 8-) 8-) :D :D :y

Well replacing the cam cover gaskets, or rather specifically the one on the passenger side engine bank, is a swine!  Everything you can imagine gets in the way; pipes, wires, clips, and the top of the cam fixings themselves which try their darndest to remove the gasket you have just applied!! >:( >:( >:(

Eventually I worked out a system of holding all out of the way just enough to get the cover on straight, true, with no wires trapped and the gasket still in place!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

In your case though LSG if there is still oil in ther plug wells I'm afraid to say the mechanics have failed to seat the cam cover gasket correctly! :( :(

Nicely done ...  :y :y

First time I did the cam covers I did exactly the same .. caught the passsenger side one when fitting and it leaked like a sieve .. :(   Second time around I COMPLETELY removed the cable tray and tied the cables up to the bonnet stay .. got them well out of the way ..

You learn by your mistakes ...  :( :( :( :(

Haha! Mark, and who said I found it more difficult than any man would have done? ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D, :D ;)
...... and it was no doubt men who were so clever in designing the miggy engine bay layout to give us all, men and women, so much pleasure when carrying out even simple maintenance precedures that on the older cars took minutes to do!!  ::) ::) :D :D ;)
