Hi, got some Brake Pad warning sensors - earlier post. The driver's side wheel does not have a hub cap, the security bolt is sheared off. The near side bolt does not want to come out with the supplied tool. I have applied plus gas and tapped the bolt but it wont budge. The rear ones are OK, is this a common problem? Is there a any advice on this one? Taking that I can the sheared bolt out of o/s wheel, are these hub caps and screws supplied other than GM?

the little hub cap like things are a bit of a barstuard as it's a steel bolt into alumium...which dont mix really, if you get the back ones out ok then put copper grease on the threads...
to drill the other one off you should be ok with a 12mm drill till it takes the head off (the cap just falls away then) and your able to take the wheels off.
the small security bolts are an 8mm thread i believe so if you wanted you could drill them and retap them for standard bolts to go back in.

Thanks for that. Just as I thought - steel/ali fusion, had various bits from roof racks to brake calipers with same problems. As you say, have to drill it out as plus gas wont shift it.

if your gna drill and retap the hole... off the top of my head its 7.5 or even 7mm drill you want- you can check by buying the new security bolts then compare the drill diametre to the core of the bolt which is the diametre of the bolt at the bottom of both sides of the thread if you get me.... mine had a 10mm bolt in as i drilled it too big to begin with- oopsy!

The Tapping drill for M8 is 6.8mm  or 17/64" in old money!  ;)  :y  :y

drill centre of bolt then use an 'easy out' to get sheared bolt out - then you dont have to tap the hole ; can use original(if not damaged) :y

near enough 7mm...

and the old security bolt is "damaged" lol....

Hi, just some feedback / advice if anyone else has this issue.
Used an 'easy out' in the centre hole in siezed lock bolt and it came out OK without damage to key holes.

The three key holes were a little damaged by previous owner/s but the key still works OK. Copper slipped before refitting. Will have to have a go at getting the other sheared one out sometime.

Get some stainless domed/round head allen screws they look good & you wont have that problem ever again  :y

thats fine untill you have a puncture on the motorway at 11pm at night in the rain and you cant get it off

in my experience using heat alone doesnt get them out, it's better using a l.hand fluted drill which are like hard to get - my work hardly ever make them and then "drilling" them out using the drill to cut into the centre of the bolt which turns it and unscrewing it.
