If a fuel filter is filled with Diesel Magic or Forte etc, how long on idle and a few revs to mid range before it would work through and be back to just diesel going through ?

it will run on just a filter ful of fuel/magic for arond 5 mins or so, but new fuel is coming in all the time and the excess is being pumped back to injector pump via leak off system, so a good few mins will have it running round the pump for a while!!!

Forgot to mention - I give mine a drink of Diesel Magic every 2.5k miles (at each oil/filter-change). |

hmm that should keep things very clean then!!!! out of interest what the condition of the oil after 2.5k? do mine every 3 to 3.5k depending on how its been used out here and the oil always still has plenty of viscosity left and isnt to thickened up by carbon by then so yours must be very good? |

Hmmm, well, the oil's the usual 'tractor-black' when drained, which doesn't (obviously) mean it's actually due for changing. Technically, I'd need a laboratory to analise and determine this. Mrs Sethsmate tends to do a fair few short hops, basically the usual shopping and unpaid taxi duties for the grandchildren. As it's annual mileage tends to hover around the 5k mark, I reckon that 2.5k service intervals are about right, when all this is considered. I also use Vx 10/40 semi-synthetic. Given that I can get hold of four 5 litre cans for around £37, and filters for around £7 each, it's a cheap car to maintain really. Markseth's newly-acquired tractor also enjoys the same servicing regime, care of the 'Sethsmate Tractor Service Centre' of course! There you have it 'OT' dear chap! |

similar thinking to mine then!!! only difference is mine has very few cold starts now as its always blooming hot out here!! current temp as i type this is 43 according to the thermometer!!! ;D when the old oil is draining i always hold a finger under the stream and check for viscosity and carbon on me glove but as you say its always going to be tractor black as soon as fresh oil has run for more than a few mins owing to the natur of the beast!! :y |
