relist it and name and shame the waster

A week is a bit long, not exactly 'cheques in the post' stuff is it. I would report it and relist.

I agree this is very wrong, I also don't like the idea of bidders ID being hidden all the time, this just makes it easier for people to bid up there own item in my opinion.

Not totally true, if you click on the 'private bidder' it tells you how many times the 'hidden person' has bid on the sellers items, if at all previously, and how many times they have 'retracted' bids.

Bit of checking makes it obvious

Yep, that seems to have backfired a bit on the new rules Danny.  Makes selling a potential hit & miss now ;) ;)

I have bought and sold quite a lot on Ebay but never a car. 12 months ago I seriously considered bidding on a Mitsibushi 4x4 in London. I had sorted out a flight but got cold feet at buying "unseen". Just as well as the seller mystically withdrew it. Fortunately I hadn't booked the flight!

Do many people actually buy cars off Ebay without first going and trying them??

Thats a long way for an unseen car, i think depending on the value (or distance) its generally ok.
I won a car in Glasgow on ebay ( i live near Bath) flew up and met the guy drove it back 9 hours to find he had left a page of the MOT failure and had lots and lots of rust!!! Never again!

Ive had about 8 cars of ebay so far, touch wood 7 of them have been as discribed or better with 1 being ok, but with a missfire.

1 of them I stole of the seller (Auction ended half way through the last England v Germany Penalty shootouts), 4 of them Ive made a profit on by buying in the North and selling in the South within a month or two (I call it free motoring rather than making money).

Think maybe Ive just been lucky.  :)

Eeejuts everywhere...... my 525 TDS was in Edinburgh, I won it after putting on a 'cheeky' bid and forgetting all about it till the invoice came through! Train to Edinburgh, 5 hours then 250 mile drive home... some of the faults immediately apparent, some on closer inspection and after a few miles :-/ I bought it as I didnt fancy the train home again but it was NOTHING like described... seller had 100% positive feedback and a score of 130.... you cant trust anybody! Have been lucky on 4 motorbikes bought on ebay... all miles away and exactly as described... wont be buying again without viewing....
On a similar note... sold the ex-wifes astra for her a few weeks back, listed all the faults and sold within 8 hours to a trader... he came, paid, advertised it as 'excellent condition with no faults' for £300 more than he paid! His photos seemed to manage to avoid all the dents and scrapes which i had highlighted on my e-bay sale!!

i brought a  xj6 of  ebay  paid a little bit over the top for it ,but  i drove and viewed the car  before placing a bid ,am looking for a omega now ,need to view  first , would never risk it , to many  lemons out there ,  check and view  1st  there are bargains out there , its finding them  :y :y

I bought our last Mig of ebay unseen :-[ and got transport company to collect it for me. ::) EML light was on, otherwise as described. Would not buy a car 'blind' again though.  I would ask a member off here to go and look for me :y am following a Mini at the moment :-/
