Title: Effing car Post by Martin Imber on 04. Jun 2009 at 11:10
I now wish I had let it carry on burning oil and leaking exhaust
It now runs on 3 cylinders and sounds terrible. Tonight when I get back from work plenum, pipes, aux belt, cam belt cover off to check timing. How easy is it to jump teeth on the cam belt? 135 works 246 not working - misfire errors. >:( :( :'( |

246 Plugs were wet
The engine went really noisy for under 1 second - switched off straight away. Screetchy noises not banging ones |

Plugs wet usually indicate a lack of combustion Martin, which to me means immediately an electrical, lack of spark, problem. I would look closely at the electrical connections back from plugs 2,4,& 6, to the CP, along with the latters connections first. ;) ;) For me it would have nothing to do with the cam belt at this stage; the problem is electrical. A whole bank is not firing due to a lack of electrical power. ;) |

.. If the unthinkable has happened, a quick compression test on 2,4,6 will reveal all. Quicker than stripping down to the cam belt.
Or see if you can ease open the top of the cam cover enough for a rough check of the timing marks. Connector on the back of 2/4/6 coil pack still firmly attached? Same problem on LPG and Petrol? Kevin |

After the funny noises I checking the belts first for peace of mind.
The WP pulley was rubbing the cam belt cover. Then check connectors |

Getting to cam belt - 1 hour max, finding my compression tester and getting an adaptor for small plugs - a lot longer. The long plenum stops the cover coming forwards enough. Yes to both fuels On 3 cylinders Connectors looked fine. I was expecting dry plugs. Might need to borrow a 246 CP :-/ |
