Title: Removing dash panel on '98 Post by SMD on 04. Jun 2009 at 23:12
Cant get my CD unit in because of the damn wiring so I just left it sticking out a bit. But when I brake hard it keeps sticking out even further which is quite annoying.
I had a look at the maintenence section but that is a different dash to mine (unless there is another one?) If anyone has pictures with the screw locations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

On my old 2.5 miggy I had a similar problem but with the radio as the CD player was in the boot !!, mainly caused by an adaptor for the stupid "traffic master" system, once I removed that things got much easier !!! The main loom seemed to catch as the unit was pushed back in so I tied a bit of string to it and passed it down the back, then eased some pressure on that as I pushed the unit back in ... got there eventually but it was tight !!

i tried doing that but couldnt make it happen, the traffic master wiring/old radio wiring doesnt fit through the viod. i figured removing the dash would probably be the easier option.
or i might take a hacksaw blade to the back if it if i get too wound up |

ive just put another head unit in mine & found the problem was the iso plugs being to wide to get out of the way [my unit has iso on leads]& the aerial co-ax had no give, i separated the co-ax away from the rest of the wiring to give it more freedom, then i separated the MID part of the plug from the other two as it wasnt required which allowed me to poke the rest out of the way easier, still awkward but it did help :y

To remove the centre console you drop the ashtray down giving you access to the 3 screws it covers...then (assuming the stereo is out) you reach into the stereo area and pull down the thick bar (its long and square shaped) but be careful to make sure you get the right one...its often located right behind the thick taped up wiring loom that runs across the back of the stereo :y

its about tucking any loom adapters under the bar that sits under the radio ;)

to answer OP - part follow guide you've found, but also pull knobs off to see extra screws
