Title: Wanted - Air Hose
Post by star_whites on 16. Sep 2009 at 22:16
Ok I will try and describe this as good as I can.

Im after a replacment air hose that comes out of the black plastic section next to the radiator. It is mounted right in front of the air hose that comes from the ICV.

Its the one that bends straight away and dispears down the back of the radiator. Mine has gone really soft and now has a large split in the hose on the bend and is covered in electrical tape for the time being. Needed quite urgent as go to Scotland in just over  a week.

Not sure what pipe it is, I would be tempted to replace with whatever comes to hand, even copper brake pipe if the diameter is right.

Brake pipe would be no good, and neither is the standard pipe you can pick up from the local car spares due to it having a 90 deg bend in it.

Id rather replace it like for like. Someone on here will have one its just a case of waiting until the right people are on  :y

Hi, I had this pipe go all soggy on mine, its a secondary air hose and the part # is 93170033, only cost me about £7 from a VX dealer and is # 5 in the picture below :).

Looks like brake pipe would be far too small anyway. Cheap enough to buy new.

Might well be that the non-return valve is shot, allowing hot exhaust gases up into the hose.

If it were me I'd blank off the pipes from each exhaust manifold and ditch the whole system.

As Kevin says it probably is the non-return valve as this was replaced on mine when i was doing the cambelt change and tested it as Mark does on the DVD and found it was u/s so got one off of here but damage to the pipe was already done :(.

Don't bother getting one from VXs as they are over £100 just for the valve so a decent s/h one is the best and cheapest route, 2.0L are the same so should be easily available on here :y.

No not the EGR valve the Secondary air system non-return valve which is attached to the shiny pipe that runs along the front of the cable tray behind the bagpipes, # 14 in picture below :y.

You should be able to blow into it but not suck, if you can suck then its nackered :(.

Ok, I know what you mean. Does anyone have one available?????

I also need to get hold of some of the rubber mounts that secure various items securly (items 16/17 plus others) hopefully will be able to stop things moving about then.

Also need a couple of the black blanks that cover the holes on top of the plenum. It annoys me everytime I lift the bonnet and see two missing  ::)

I'm sure i've got 2 of them - one off an old engine, plus one off the one i'm dismantling at the moment (a 2.0, but looks identical)

How much do you want phil and as your stripping it dwon do you have any spare torq bits. I could do with as many as possible, preferably the smaller ones I think there either m6/8. There the ones that fit the E8/E10 torq bits!!  :y

I know the ones you mean - and all mine "died" - had to remove the whole manifold to get the valve off in the end.  I'd use something a bit better on reassembly myself (be it cap head/hex head/stainless). The valve itself has a set of hex flats - will measure up tomorrow as i used an adjustable - but guess you can get in with a crows foot spanner or even a oil filter strap.  As soon as it starts to turn, its fine, suggesting its a taper thread to me.
Hows about a fiver, posted?  That works out at 2 cans of Guiness for the skinned knuckles and the postage cost...

Forgot to add - if you want the flying saucer valve (the plastic one) as well, drop me a PM and i'll rescuse it in the morning before the remains of the car go to the crusher...the whole system must have still been OK on mine as the SAI fan packed up before i got the car and it hadn't melted anything.
