Tell me about it. Stopped 10pm Sunday evening, bike apparently not on MID, bike impounded (cost of £105), meds had well faded by then so arrested for losing the plot, etc, etc.......subsequently found not guilty of public order offences, still waiting for refund of £105 recovery fee 14 months on. Here's the kicker for me..... The bike is registered to me, at my home address. My driving license (verified at roadside) is at my home address. The bike is MOT'd The bike is Taxed Everything you can think of is above board, so why the f**k would I not have insurance (especially when it is so cheap). The double kicker.....we were less than 5 minutes from my home address. Although I guess it was just too obvious to take me home so I could show the insurance certificate ::) |

Title: Re: Scary Or What? Post by Vamps on 10. Nov 2009 at 22:19
I had this recently on the Saxo I got for Master Vamps, it's all in my name, though the Insurance is in his. went to Tax it online, said no insurance, checked the MID, no insurance, now the car is parked on the road and created not passing police interest and we get the Traffic guys pass here a lot. Anyway, I know it is insured, cos I paid for it :( on closer inspection the insurance cert showed the reg with one letter wrong. Contacted them, sorted it left if a few days and taxed it online, so must be showing as insured now. All because I did not check the documents properly. I can imagine the ranting from me if pulled when out in the car... :)

the other isue there mike would have been if there had been a mishap followed by a claim. My btoher just treated himself to a nearly new vaccy sri, put his 407 estate up for sale and in the process it got stolen. This then caused issues as his licence hadnt got a speeding code on it that they reconded should be there, so they just refused to pay up. Fact is the code had been removed automatically as he got a new licence when he moved, the speeding issue time was up so it was automatically removed. Since been paid out , but what a night mare. Simply because some detail was incorrect and not our kids fault. |

It's playing into the hands of anyone wanting to steal your vehicle. Plus, we're not required to. It's perfectly acceptable to present them to the police within 7 days (or. at least, it used to be before I think one of the problems is that there has been a spate of people taking out insurance, getting the bit of paper and then cashing-in the policy. Even still, the plod could make one phone call to confirm you're insured. >:( Kevin |

High time the UK followed the lead of some other European countries.
In Spain for example you have a sticker which shows the month and the year your MOT is valid to. Insurance is non refundable once taken out for the year. Tax is paid once a year by whoever owns the vehicle in May. Plus you have to carry all your documents with you to be able to produce them on the spot if asked. Varche |

Aside from the fact that if I religously keep them all in one place indoors, I will know EXACTLY where they are at ALL times and NEVER run the risk of losing them.......I have more than enough crap to carry about and not enough pockets to keep it all in. Besides, we are constantly told the computer knows everything......obviously it f**king doesn't, but that ain't my problem (although the adage of "nothing to hide, nothing to worry about" is obviously 'dangle berries'). |

Our insurance is part based on post codes which they Inclused in that charge as I found out later was 2 x £17.50 for issuing new policy documents. So basicaly an extra £20 a car, which at £200 inial insurce per car is approx 10% per car extra, but 6 months has passed since renewal and when that happended I was actually quoted an extra 20% per car. Plus I now have a double drive and dont park on the road at night, I used to live by a juction where the were buses turning level with my car in a busy village. I now live on a small rural village road with no through traffic So maybe a small price to pay for the benefits of what I feel is a far safer and secure area. ;) |

Was expecting some form of comment from you. I actually think I am a good neighber, dont make any noise, keep myself to myself. Not nosy. Nice tidy well kept garden. Was thinking of moving over your way, but might have taken it up a few level and I dont think you lot would have been able to cope with me being there. So then I would have worried about my cars or wheels getting nicked in the middle of the night. :-/ |

We use Admiral multicar and find it cheapest if you haggle hard. They are very efficient at car changes too (have them on speed-dial ;D ) We cover two cars and have national breakdown on one car, Euro full cover on the Omega, plus 4 drivers per car. Have used various insurers and have found Admiral to be very good and efficient as we never have to repeat anything and they were competitive on renewal. Recommended :y |

1st year I was £470 for the 2 but the 2nd car was 0% No Claims bonus. Year 2 they tried to charge me £485 so I takled them and got it for £402 telling them I expected the 2nd car to be at least 10 cheaper, so happy with the result. As regards 2 seperate policies, that was a night mare trying to arrange with many companys offer to mirror the policy and at the point of sign up finding they had lied. My premium would have been £325 to £375 for the 1 main car with no bonus on the 2nd, so the multicar I feel is costing me £75/100 a year and getting cheaper with discount. When viable the 2nd car will get changed for something tasty, which for me may well be a Trans Am or Corvette and I will have the option to insure that as the cheaper car of the when it happens. Actually thing about it, buying a fun small car might bring the insurance down with a bump and run the Elite as a 2nd car, but insured in a way that makes the benefits of multi car the cheapest. (if that makes sence) :y |

When I whinged about the renewal, the helpful chap said the insurance industry in general is trying to recover big losses so most premiums higher across the board. Checked this against Direct Line and a few comparison sites (including separate breakdown cover) and he was right. We settled on £700 including all the bits (Euro breakdown on one, national on the other, 4 drivers, full business use on both cars, legal cover, no excess etc) which sounds huge but takes into account my write-off roll a few years ago and my wife being a newish driver. Still £££££ though-but can't beat it. |

Strange...it says my car is an Elite and a auto. definatly not either. Never checked insurance cert, probably should.
Something to do with being ex plod? if so has anyone else had problems with this? |

Title: Re: Scary Or What? Post by yatesDELTA on 11. Nov 2009 at 22:37
OH also
My old cars renewal was end of January. They neglected to send me a letter about this, and unlike all of my other insurance policies it didnt renew automatically. So for a month until i remembered i had the car for over a year i was out of insurance, when there was snow and stuff. While i appreciate its my responsibility, the length of time i've owned my car doest occur very often and in over 2000 miles anything could have happened. |

Yes I have, the wife had a Volvo S40 T4 for a couple of years, (if you don'y no it, it the 200bhp fast one) anyway we quoted the number plate to the insurance company and the quote was very cheap, could not understand it, it turns out the car was listed as a standard 2.0. So I wonder for how many years before we bought where previous owners paying cheap insurance, but if anything would have happened they may not have been covered. Anway I insisted on insurance company giving a certificate with the right details stating it was a T4, price went up bu about £150 year, but worth it for peace of mind. |

My car used to get re insured every December and I knew I was being stung for it. When I changed to the Elite I got in April, I parked it up through May and insured from the 1st June last year, and just dumped the old company and took a reduction on the outstanding ammount. This still worked out cheaper on the 1st car with Admiral. So the time of year the insurance is started defineately makes a difference. |
