While browsing through my new mmobile phone (Nokia 6303) I found Nokia maps :-?. Forgive me for being a numpty  ::) .... I've only ever used a phone for phone calls & a few texts .... but, am I right in thinking that if I had something like this to 'talk' to my phone, then I'd have a sat-nav of sorts?  :-/  :-/

mate, if your 6303 has built in gps then all u need is a MAPS licence.

yes it would work but you would have to pay more for the sat nav functions i belive to use the nokia maps as a naigation aid

:-/ What are you paying for then? Doesn't the GPS just tell the phone where it is, and then the phone uses use its maps?  :-/  :-/

iirc, it will give you a map of where you are, free of charge.

to use routing, you have to subscribe.

afaik, you can also run a version of tomtom on it.

Not sure you can, TomTom works on Symbian S60, but not S40 which is what the 6303 runs.

Ta!  ;) Still not much wiser though as the phone will calculate a route list for you if you put the start & finish adresses in, but obviously it doesn't know where it is.

Yes it will Andy. Your phone does not have internal Gps. Its designed to get its Gps signal from an external gps receiver via blue tooth as the one you link to. The nokia maps software will handel all that no problem.

However, i would look into installing tomtom and use that instead of the nokia maps software. No sub, and far better software. The nokia receiver will work with tomtom, which is best way to do it as the charger port will be the same as the phone, i would think. Saves buggering about with 2 chargers.
I'm also assuming your phone will accept other applications, not sure, memory card slot maybe?

I was going to comment the same, i used to run tomtom on my old Nokia N70 & N80's was damn useful when driving around the USA. Sadly you need the OS based S60, S40 is not even close. But its MUCH faster, and for Andy's needs, i think it ticks all the boxes. Tomtom is sluggish on Symbian at the best of times

Series 40? what where?
I'd not really thought about a sat-nav, I have the factory fit in my Omega, which I know is old & there's a lot better about now, but it works.
I bored you all with the demise of my previous phone, and this new phone was free from SWMBO's phone contract. I didn't even know the phone had maps on it, I found them as I was looking for something else, and just wondered if it would be easy enough to use them as a sat-nav of sorts.
So ...... if I had a bluetooth GPS it would work ..... ?  :-/  ;D  ;D

Yes Andy.  ::) .... if you subscribe, yes.

For info series 40 phones are a basic menu list, shown page at a time, with a set amount of memory assigned to each page. Series 60 phones have a communal memory, meaning they can have more than one page or application open at any time. Making Multitasking possible.....and allowing other applications to be added, such as tomtom etc
So there you go.
