Title: Old age and infirmity, (well not that old!)
Post by Ken L on 18. Nov 2009 at 13:51
I have always done most of the work needed myself on my cars, up all night under the car etc etc, but due to the above title I relinquished it to my son a few years ago.
My car failed the test last wednesday on two pieces of brake pipe, and two exhaust rubber hangers missing ( which we new about but forgot to fit before the test  :-?) anyway my son is currently working intermitant odd hours so I have had to entrust my car to a stranger, I take it to him in the morning to sort the brake pipes and I'm completely on edge, can't settle, I just hate anyone touching my cars. I can't wait for it to be all over, and the car through the test.
I'd rather be going in for an operation myself I think. :-[

At least it's only a few little bits to do  :y

Find someone nice and you may enjoy the chat whilst he does it.

The guy is apparently a sound guy and good mechanic, he did a similar job on a friends car and they said it was a top job...still...can't help the anxiety, is it just me?

And me too Ken, I think it's the feeling of not being in control. Even when I was actually there watching the guy fixing my car I had to physically thrust my hands into my pockets to stop the urge to take the tools from him & do it 'my way' LOL ;D :y

I never do anyof the work on my cars, I have 2 mates whom I do trust.

The people I certainly dont trust these days are the garages.  There allways seems to be some niggle about the job or the car when it comes back.

We use a well known local independent mechanic, have known him for years, never had any problems with him.... :y All his work is repeat or work of mouth :)

Well, it's still not sorted, he had the car all morning, then phoned to say he had only done the front, he couldn't do the back as it's steel brake pipe and he doesn't have the right tools for the job,..... and the one he did is a bit a bit messy, Changed the radio station and put some miles on the clock.

Got a price from dealer...£179 for a section of brake pipe fitting.
Finnished up booking it into Hi-Q monday morning, they quoted me £50 for the two sections at the rear or £80 if they have to replace it all the way to the master cylinder, here's hoping it's done on monday. :-/

Thanks cruise', me too, yeah Vamps, that's what I'm looking for now, someone I can trust to do a good job and look after my car now my son's not available as much.
I was thinking, would be good if one of the lads on here, an enthusiast of the Omega was close enough to go to for the ocasional job. I'm hoping it won't be needed very often, as we all do.

All sorted 12 months test now on the car  :y
Hi-Q did a decent tidy job, cost me £85, but at least it's tested for another year, the test centre got it me straight back in for the re-test, I can relax again lol.  :y
