Title: Bike Carriers Post by Mack on 20. Nov 2009 at 09:31
Anyone got any experience of fitting bike carriers to an Omega estate i.e. what works well and is stable and easy to remove when not in use. Getting a bit fed up with putting the seats down all the time to put mine and the kids bikes in the bike, especially when muddy.
Roof or back of car? What sort of rack would fit on the roof bars....? Not really done much looking about yet, but always best to get other's thoughts first...... We've got a mixed range of sizes of bikes and I've got a road and a mountain bike, if that makes any difference..... Cheers in advance. |

I have tried (not on Omega) both roof-rack and rear carrier.
The roof bar bike mounts were strong and stable but were a pain to get the bikes on and off. The rear carriers I have used are ok if they fit properly and very tightly fitted, with an additional number plate to stay within the law. Only thing is, every one I have used has marked the car-one even dented the bootlid in under the weight of three bikes. The bikes also overhang if you don't take a wheel off and restrict rear visibility. Friends use a cheap but modified trailer with "dividers" which fits four bikes safely and easily-easy to load/unload too :y |

I have a wall storage bracket from these guys
http://www.maxxraxx.co.uk/ Not the cheapest but the qualityand design is an order of magnitude better than any other option I have seen (note, do a search as some free to join forums get a discount!) |
