Title: Carjack Warning Post by Lizzie Zoom on 25. Nov 2009 at 15:28
The following has been sent to me by a friend, who is one of a chain sending it out.
Do not know the validity of it, but as it sounds very plausable in this day and age I though I would publish it for general info, especially for the women on here: "WARNING FROM POLICE THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE-- NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)' Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating.. You walk across the car park, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine put it into Reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you stop and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically run you over as they speed off in your car. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised! BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED. If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, lock your doors and just drive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands. Please tell all your friends" ;) ;) I have just read on the internet that this is in widespread circulation across the world: oh well, it could be useful if someone tries to copy this action!!!! ::) ::) ::) |

Email Hoax
See here: http://www.hoax-slayer.com/car-jacking-warning.html The fact it goes on about "send to everyone you know" pretty much gives it away :y |

I think I read something along those lines a year or two ago [ed](OK, Make that 4 years in the light of the post above!!).[/ed] But that's the internet.
I always pays to be vigilant when getting in/out of a car. :y One of my gripes with central locking is that it usually opens all the doors when you probably only want to get out of one! |

Thanks for the heads up Lizzie, unfortunately it is a hoax that is almost as old as the internet itself.

Another trick used, is to move your wheelie bin across your drive after it's been emptied on bin day. You get home,& get out so you can move the bin to get down your drive. Johnny Toerag jumps out & jumps into your car which is often left running & away they drive!!! :-? :-? :-?

Yeah. And while you're ice-scraping, and while your under the bonnet, and while you run back in for a piss. ;D
TIP: Dont leave your car with the keys in and engine running if you are not actually in the vicinity. The insurance companies take a very dim view of it. ::) |

These items make you think; (whether they are genuine or not). I have seen people on a cold frosty morning run into the newsagents for a paper/fags etc. and leave their car running despite all the warnings about insurance being void etc.

I leave the motor running for a minimum 30 secs every time I get out, but I'll quite happily bet you wouldn't get the car away in that time frame even if I sat on the sidelines giving you encouragement. |

Yet another "Please forward to everyone" e-mail. Just a way of gathering e-mail addresses and pc info. I delete them. Never foward them to anyone.

It's not! :-? Various expensive cars have been reported stolen like this up the road nearer Manchester from me .... where the money is! ;) It's easier to nick a modern car with the keys aready in than fish through your letter box for the key. :y |

before buying my mig, i had a nissan 300zx, this had a remote starter fitted so on a frosty morning i could clear my screen without unlocking the car, or going outside, and should anyone break in it had a security device added that if the brake peddle was pressed (auto) or clutch (man) the engine would cut out if the keys were not in! this was a very handy bit of kit. :y

Turbo timer works the same way in our car, touch the throttle or release the handbrake before the key is back in the ignition and everything is killed. |
