Title: Movie FX: 1928 style Post by Debs. on 25. Nov 2009 at 18:25
:o A real train wrecked for a 1928 movie:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8379500.stm ....reminds me (a little) of the nuclear flask test crash on the test track at 'Old Dalby' in 1984.....but what a waste of a Class 46 loco.:'( |

Ahh, the Basingstoke and Alton light railway. Used to live practically on the old track bed.

I've nearly come a cropper in that spot myself - not in a train, of course. It's not a nice junction. ::)
At least they've repaired the potholes now so you can get some traction. ::) Kevin |

Sorry, but as a railway enthusiast I must try and identify the four engines involved in this film clip:
Scene 1. Driver looking out on right side of engine ; 2-6-0 Maunsell 'U' class of 1928, built in Brighton, possibly a rebuilt "River" tank class for the Southern Railway. Scene 2. Express engine pulling train on Basingstoke to Woking four track section; appears to be either a 4-6-0 Urie H15 or Maunsell N15 "King Arthur" class, built in Eastleigh in 1918-23 (Urie batch) or 1925 (Maunsell), with 8 wheel outside bearing tender, for the SE&CR / Southern Railway. Scene 3. Local passenger on double track; Mausell 2-6-0 "N" class mixed traffic, built Ashford / Woolwich Arsnel 1917-25 for the SE & CR - later Southern Railway. Scene 4. Engine in crash; Stirling (sometimes referred to as Wainwright engines) 4-4-0 F1 class of 1903-16, built in Ashford for the SE & CR -South Eastern & Chatham Railway. ;) ;) |

In case anyone wants to see more of a close up of the final crash locomotive, here is a rare film clip of a Stirling F1 4-4-0 in action on the Southern Railway (unknown date):
