Title: When I Was A Kid
Post by CD-Pete on 01. Dec 2009 at 09:15
When i was a kid my Mum would send me to the shop with fifty pence in my pocket. I could get a Wham Bar, a bag of pick n mix, a comic book, cans of fizzy pop, a bag of crisps & a gob stopper. I'd come home with loads of change. You can't do that these days..................

You must still be young and vibrant Bob, in my case it was a 3d bit and a tanner if you were flush.

A bob (or single shilling - generally used for the gas meter) was very much getting into the territory of being well capitalised whilst 2 bob ensured a faithful following of acquaintances.

A half-crown, 2/6d meant that you could dispense with those capricious acquaintances and wallow in self-satisfied financial luxury.

A 10 shilling note, half a nicker or 10 bob was a very rare and mostly fleeting experience whilst the £1 note or quid was the stuff of dreams.

Happy days?

It is strange ......how people remember insignificant events......I remember my first wage packet very well.
The year was 1976......I was paid £20 ....... my take home pay was £16.84p....of which £4 went to my Mum(the old girl as she was known then)......leaving me the princely sum of £12.84.....to piss up the wall each week. :D :D
......and Oh yes......I also lost my cherry in 1976.. ;) ;) ;)......and it was a fantastic warm summer too. :y :y :y.....as you say Zulu...Happy days.. :y

Damn you Opti you've got me going over old ground again.

My first biblical knowledge of a female was 4 years prior to yours.  A wonderful, warm-hearted and generous - in the non financial sense - woman she was.

A forensic scientist by calling she guided me through this untraversed territory with great expertise and care for a few heavenly months.

My place in nirvana was lost however when her husband who had been doing a post-grad course in some esoteric subject in a well known, if remote, university returned to domestic civilisation.

I can still see her face, hear the soft modulation of her voice and feel the urgency of her breath on my face.

Now those were happy days.
