Title: Steering idler Post by Omegadoha, Desert Member on 12. Dec 2009 at 09:17
How many steering idlers should your car have 1 or 2? My passenger side one is dodgy.
Jacked the car up passenger side took the wheel off and gave the disc a good tug. You could see the tie rod and idler moving, which has perhaps been responsible for steering problems. |

Sorry to hi jack this thread but..............
I may have a problem, without checking do you think my steering idler is the problem? When driving over rough roads I get sort of tram lining and the steering wheel seems to snatch/twitch in you hands. Seems also to be pulling slightly to the left. Any ideas? was going to order a steering idler and fit to elimate that anyway. Car passed MOT last month! Mick |

sterring idler would make it tram lining, check by pushing up and down on the idler if it moves in the middel of the idler then that is the fault, it will move abit but not alot, if it realy easy to move up and down would change it.

No problem, the symptoms sound exactly the same as mine. Tramlining occurs over rough ground and the steering wheel will 'twitch' over raised ground. As I idler is situated on the passenger side, the symptoms might be more apparent on the passenger side. Jack the passenger side up with the wheel removed and jerk the brake disc quite hard. You will see the tie rod and idler move. |
