Title: Doubting myself Post by TheBoy on 13. Dec 2009 at 19:08
Just come back from petrol station after putting in a minimal amount of fuel (my company has some scam/loophole for claiming VAT back on the milage I claim when I go to site, even though the customer pays 100% for it; I disagree with this, as its wrong, so they get one for the minimum delivery of 2l), and now I stink of diesel.
Now I know you have to be a numpty to stick diesel in a petrol car, and even more of a numpty to get a diesel nozzle in a modern petrol filler, but I'm doubting myself. Even Mrs TB says I stink of diesel...... |

If it drove home without issue then its probably OK to drive back to the nearest (not the cheapest) garage and fill it properly and dilute it to the max... |

I'm that convinced I'm not so daft as to misfuel, I will drive to Banbury in the morning ;). People in Milton Keynes - an area well reknown for having more than its fair share of stupid people - have a special van that drives around to repair misfuelling. Always see it at petrol stations there, helping out some idiot with a negative IQ |

Receipt says UNLEADED. So assuming the incredibly astute, intelligent people at the local Brackley BP are clever enough to get the right fuel in the right tanks, I should be safe.
Thats a big IF!! |

The smell of diesel might well be from your shoes ??? If some numpty has spilt some and not cleaned up ??? Diesel smell is strong and lingers, so if you've got it on your shoes/trousers it'll smell for a while ??

Probably some daft idiot just fuelled up their 4x4 (the ones that have road tyres on and would struggle to drive off a grass verge) and as they where busy talking on the phone forgot to release the trigger when they returned the nozzle to the pump and sprayed the whole lot in diesel.
As all pumps seem to serve diesel these days it seems you cant help but stand in the bloody stuff everytime to fill up these days. |

On my hands. I assume one of the locals has managed to spray diesel over the petrol pump handles... |

It could have been diesel in the garage tanks,I have known it to happen.I was on my way back from Gt. Bentley bike meet with a mate on a TRX850 a few years back,we stopped to fill the bikes up with petrol, but within a couple of miles his bike started running extremely rough and then conked out. When we smelled his tank it stunk of diesel and when he drained it the next day sure enough he had a tank full of diesel.
