Oh dear! It's not going well. People resigning, people being beaten up and gassed. Tut tut.
But.......look up there....is it abird?.....is it a plane?....NO! It's Gormless Brown! If you think it was bad before.......... ;D ;D |

What a bunch of idiots. There they are arguing about whether we want 1.5 or 1 degrees C of "Climate Change" when there isn't even a scientific concensus on a link between CO2 and temperature let alone how much CO2 we need to let out of the ground to achieve a specific temperature change. ::)
Still, I'm sure it's a nice jolly just before Christmas and that they are being fed and watered well at our expense. What are the Christmas markets in Copenhagen like? Kevin |

Apparently Gormless flew in on one private jet and prince proper Charlie flew in on another.Nice to see they are taking the issue really seriously,I think it must be about 50 days ago when Gormless informed us that he had 50 days to save the planet. No doubt he will be telling us by the weekend that he did just that.
Someone give him a red cape - and stuff it down his throat and choke the fecking idiot. ::) ;D |

Poor Gormless cant get out of the conference centre. It is surrounded by lentil munchers who are threatening say nasty things to him if he emerges. He will have go for hours without a clean shirt and will be forced to eat smoked salmon sandwiches and drink Danish beer for the whole evening.
Who said it's not hard being PM. |

Methinks that the greatest contribution to Global
Warming is currently all the hot air being spouted in Copenhagen. As with most things in life nowadays, it's mainly about making money. Politics and Big Business is so intertwined now, it's an inseperable symbiotic relationship. With this in mind, why has our esteemed leader just given away £1.5 Billion of our taxes? This money has now been removed from our pockets and our economy. Hasn't he twigged yet that he's mean't to be on the take for UK plc? Not playing at Lady Bountiful with our money and putting it into the private Swiss Bank accounts of Third World despots. I despair sometimes. |

0.038% is the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere.
Less than Argon And it is essential for plant growth. I think all we need to do is plant trees and let nature do its best. Oh and deal with particulates - a bigger threat than an essential to life gas |

I was watching Newsnight last night. They conducted a "scientific experiment" where a "scientist", watched by some Members of the Public, shone a couple of lamps onto two plastic bottles, one of which contained more CO2 than the other. When the temperature rose higher in that bottle, some of the MoPs were converted to believing in climate change.
What the experiment actually proved was that:
The saddest part was that a senior scientific advisor to the Government, complete with knighthood, stood there and watched this travesty and then spouted the usual Government climate change disaster line. I really don't know how serious the increase in atmospheric CO2 is, and I don't know if it can trigger climate change, and I don't know what the consequences of climate change will be. But I do know bad science I see it, and I do know when my intelligence is being insulted, and I do know when a bunch of fanatics is trying to bully me into seeing things their way. :( |

Tony H has a point. We've had god knows how many climate changes over the years that affect different species & evolution in general (ice age) etc. Suddenly everyone's an expert & we can put the world right if we stop doing this/start doing that..... "President Chavez brought the house down.
When he said the process in Copenhagen was “not democratic, it is not inclusive, but isn’t that the reality of our world, the world is really and imperial dictatorship…down with imperial dictatorships” he got a rousing round of applause. When he said there was a “silent and terrible ghost in the room” and that ghost was called capitalism, the applause was deafening. But then he wound up to his grand conclusion – 20 minutes after his 5 minute speaking time was supposed to have ended and after quoting everyone from Karl Marx to Jesus Christ - “our revolution seeks to help all people…socialism, the other ghost that is probably wandering around this room, that’s the way to save the planet, capitalism is the road to hell....let’s fight against capitalism and make it obey us.” He won a standing ovation. http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/putting_our_economy_in_the_hands_of_chavez_fans/ Yes, it's all about science isn't it? "Prime Minister Gordon Brown has now offered, at the climate change conference in Copenhagen, a cut of 42 per cent in Britain’s carbon dioxide emissions by 2020. That would be a massive increase from the current 20 per cent target. This research note shows that meeting such a target could mean massive cuts in Britain’s national income."

The public has no say what so ever in these matters, be it europe bull or current policys, every goverment just does what it wants when its in, no matter who is in. They are all the same, so i (personally) am not really interested in these European policys or climate bollox. There is still no real evidence that humans are affecting this climate, and thats its just not natural warming. So i just get on doing the things i want to do, earning best money i can, and doing things i want to do :) |

Interesting as I often listen to 80's music on a friday evening with a beer (or 2)....and the song playing as I read this thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6FDvH0b7II Seems so very ........er appropriate....or not in the case of politicians |

1. Extended power cuts due to cutbacks in new grid capacity (many of our power stations must be decommissioned shortly due to EU regulations and new stations are being hindered by green objections, e.g Kingsnorth). 2. Punitive taxation on air travel to meet carbon reduction targets. 3. Reduced income, if not unemployment, due to high taxation, low GDP, high food and energy inflation - i.e. an economic depression. All are feasible. :( |

1. Not had a power cut in over a decade, other sources of power will be found even if brought from over the water (be it at a higher cost) 2. Who said anything about flying??? 3. The media have hyped this depression out of proportion, i have doubled my basic income in the last 2 years, and in this 'depression' had 3 job offers. |

A project I have worked on.....not a huge chunk, 2GW to be exact......and in the last 24hours uk consumption peaked at 56GW.....and we are using 15% less due to the recession (heavy engineering is has scaled back hugely). Cross channel delivers less than a large coal fired station |

According to Association of Electricy producers: In 2004 the UK imported 9,784 GWh (guessing thats including Ireland as well as France) Sure that's more than a single station? Remember seeing the control of power, and how we had to increase supply massively from France during add breaks due to all the kettles being switched on ::) |

Title: Re: Copenhagen Climate Talks Post by Entwood on 18. Dec 2009 at 22:36
Large amounts of gas now come from the continent (actually Russia) and boy do we pay for it .... :(
If we get ourselves dependant on others for electricity as well we might as well give up any idea of independance and prosperity at all... we will be screwed even more than we are now .. :( |

No.....forgeting your science me thinks.....that would equate to approx 1.1GW.......Drax for instance generates 3.9GW which would equate to 34164 GWh (if it ran flat out for 1 year which clearly it cant)....or approx 7% of uk needs |

Title: Re: Copenhagen Climate Talks Post by Marks DTM Calib on 18. Dec 2009 at 22:45
And just to annoy the greenies, we would need around 160000 large wind turbines to meet uk needs.....however on nice sunny days, the lights would go off!

Power transmission on that scale is very costly to setup and takes a long while to develop and get going. I know that the original cross channel that was bult in the mid 80's cost circa 2billion quid......and was around a 3 year project. |

What about those snake water things which failed in the 80's (not due to the tech but some other personal issue iiic) I remember seeing a more moden version last year, looked impressive. They sat in the water and the natural movement of the waves generated a constant supply, although we could need quite a few of them ;D As for Wind farms, stick them up in Scotland ;D ;D |
