Fill tank to the top - and drive a good distance.

Then fill back to top.

Note how many litres of fuel went back in. say 50

Note the mileage covered since last fill - say 300

divide 50 (litres) by 4.55 - and you get 10.99 gallons

Divide your mileage = 300, by the gallons - 10.99 - and you get your MPG = in this case 27.29

Help?

Trip to zero, brim it.
Next fill up, log mileage and litres.

Divide litres used by 4.5 to give number of gallons
Divide mileage by the above number of gallons to get mpg.

Adjust for mileometer innacuracy if needed  :y

'cause this won't remain constant, it will depend on how your driving style may vary, hard acceleration, how often, urban, motorway, uphills downhills etc etc.

I average around town,  inc' traffic about 40-43 miles on a tenner of V.Power, the other day I checked the range before putting £10 in and it said 56 miles, I put in the fuel and the range was 98 miles...= 42 miles per tenner.

Not Bad for around town. I put in £55 of V power at 1.13 i think and got just under 400 more or less all motorway and sticking to 65-70 most or the time.

That works out about 36 mpg. I've not checked mine for mostly motorway, don't get much chance at the moment...all urban.  V.Power is 114.9 at the place I go to

£55 @ £1.13 ltr = 50ltrs divided by 4.54 =11.01gallons

400 miles divided by 11.01gallons =  36.33mpg

No problems there  :y :y :y :y

I think you need to open it up occasionally on long runs, I generally do a steady 60 ish on long motorway drives but keep varying it a bit, drop to 50, up to 70, 80, 90, back to 60, excersise the engine.
I don't think it does the engine any good droning on at the same speed for mile after mile, plus as you say, it gets boring and you face the danger of nodding off.
