I would have said "uneconomical to repair" but Jimbo B is getting his fixed ... so you may be lucky ...
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1261090645 But I wouldn't be holding my breath ..... :( Good luck though :y :y :y |

Might need a bit of isopon as well! Seriously a hell of a lot of damage for a 15mph shunt. |

Title: Re: Damage to car pics Post by Chris_H on 18. Dec 2009 at 14:11
It looks as though the hit has gone over the bumper. I presume the front suspension was compressed at the time?
Tesco carrier bags and duct tape are the best bet methinks. Sad. |

Title: Re: Damage to car pics Post by Bourne on 18. Dec 2009 at 14:54
If that was done at 20mph I reckon the other car must have been reversing at about 30 to do all that damage!

I doubt the ins will pay for repairs like that on a 12 year old car.

I'm afraid it's going to the knackers yard, was going to have to put in storage for a couple of months anyway come new year, when tax runs out.
Even more gutted today because as things stand- thats it for personal transport for the foreseeable future Wouldn't have finances to fix it anyway so looks like I'll be having to use those big square lorry type things with 2 floors of seats for people they pick up at the side of the road--anyone know what they are called. For those who doubt 15mph crash speed well -bugga off ;D--thats my story and I'm sticking to it. Really though had just turned right at mini roundabout and traveled about 20 yards in heavy snow on a slippy road-didn't even set off traction control so wasn't blatting it. Real sickener though is we did have enough cat food left and there was no reason to go out yesterday-Bugga!!! |

It's all about the pouint of impact, looks like it has suffered impact on more of a crumple zone area.
With it being a P plate, the external parts alone will cost more the the value of the car, then the labour and paint on top. If any damage has been done to the inner wing then duble the cost becaused knowing how they work they will say thats and rngine out jobbie and thats why it's classed as a uneconomical repair. and I know sod all about cars. |

That is a bad hit threepence and a great shame for you :'( :'( :'(
I don't doubt your speed as once I drove my 1996 3.0 Elite into the back of a trailer on a roundabout at no more than 10 miles an hour.........£1,800 of damage, but repaired (car was then worth around £7,000)!! Then the recent mishap of that idiot running into the back of my stationary CDX at maybe 10 to 15 mph on impact..............£2,300 of damage and a W/O :'( :'( It is amazing how miggies can fold and take them well over the "uneconomical repair" hurdle, as yours no doubt has!! :'( :'( |

Sympathies. It could be worth more to break if your ins. co. allow a buy back or reduced settlement, either way haggle, never accept thier first offer.
Large damage at low speed impacts equates to low injuries @ higher speed impacts, hence the mess. |

right mate, if you can, time to get your spanners out and break it up for spares over christmas then weigh the chassis in for scrap :y

I think the inner wing could be ok? May just get away with bonnet, bumper, wing and slam panel?

This may not be of much use to you but I have got a p plate 2.5 tourer in what looks like a similar gold colour,if you need it for spares as it is sat on my drive I am willing to help you.Pity I am about 70 miles away from you as it is just out of tax and test but is a complete car that just needs a bit of tlc.

Title: Re: Damage to car pics Post by Ken T on 18. Dec 2009 at 23:43
Yes, I would check the inner wing and front box section before condemning it. You are going to have to smack the front pretty hard to upset the steering and suspension.
You might find the damage is confined to the bumper, bonnet, headlight and poss radiator. These are all bolt on bits designed to be easily replaceable. There are a lot of cars going for scrappage so you could poss pick up bits for a reasonable fee. Depending on your insurance, if comp then take the dosh and run, if 3rd party could poss sort for not a lot. Ken |

Bada-bing, bada-boom. Get the estate booked in for an MOT (if you can get a deal sorted) at a garage of your convenience. Get the bits you need off the estate, sell the rest on here. Scrap man takes the rest off your hands. Job done. But it all depends on how much you want to keep your Mig? The damage looks all bolt-on to me from the pics, then a geom-check at WIM. |

Thanks everyone for the Tea and Sympathy, much appreciated.
Which ever way we look at it, as things stand we can't afford to run a car at the minute, even if we did get it fixed, so I'm afraid it's going. Will start saving(yeah right!!!) with the bit of extra we'll have now and 2-3 years time have enough for a 12 year old out of T&T Micra!!! Whooop-de-fekking-whooooo. Thanks again for your help and advice. :y Gary |
