I guess the estate was good enough.

You reminded me of the SD1, Rover actually made a prototype estate which i think is in a motoring museum some where. They shelved it, because they already had the hatchback.

Why would you want a noisy hatchback instead of a proper 3 box saloon?

A bit like the Ford Granada Scorpio ??? Would probably have been a good seller, Ford certainly sold a LOT of the early Scorpio's ... until they changed it to the ugliest thing ever.

Was a popular car due to comfort, performance and load-lugging ability ... I had assorted junk in mine at times including ... double mattress / upright freezer / 650cc Honda (admittedly - missing the front wheel and several other bits after my mate bent his rather badly ....

It was also a very good tow-car for those of us with "tin-tents"


Methinks an Omega version would have had many the same attributes...  :)

Ford virtually missed a trick with the MKIII Granada. After having about the biggest roomiest estate on the market with the MKII, the MKIII was only available as a hatcback & it took them years to eventually re-introduce an estate .... which only lasted a few years afterwards anyway.
Proper executive cars, which the Omega was intended to be, come as saloons (maybe an estate eventually) just look at BMW 7 series & Merc S class ...... proper saloons. Leave hatchbacks in the middle Astra sector where they belong.

Biggest problem with my Omega is the depth of the boot - You cant put anything big in there.

I was thinking about buying a proper halford tool box. But theres no point - it wont fit in the boot  >:(

You could fit FAR more in my old Vectra Hatchback that I had.

As a result they lost out to an area of the executive car market which was quickly cornered by Volvo... :( :(

I believe Opel did although it was made under the Monza name (photos were from 2001 apparently)

In the boot of mine, its actually £95 on trade, with or without the offer. I believe the machine mart ones you get an extra row for the same buck, but i don't have any close to me really.

Its also much better than what i had before! ;D

and no, did not like the idea of an Omega hatch. Omega was aimed at 7 series market but never stood a chance with the badge.
