Title: Weather laughing-stock Post by Debs. on 20. Dec 2009 at 21:22
:-[ Yet again Britain seems woefully unprepared for what is (truthfully) 'only a few chilly days'.....electricity supplies interrupted, airports closed, train services paralysed, roads impassable.......but it`s hardly a "nuclear Winter" is it? :-/
.......perspective offered: Last night in Poland; 15 (yes 15!) motorists froze to death in their vehicles, as temps. fell to -33 C. :o Come on U.K.....get a national grip and expect (and make provision-for) perfectly normal, British Winter-time weather. ;) |

The poor press need some spectacular exclusive to prove global warming. Trouble is, the Daily Mail readers believe the hype, then drive at 5mph everywhere. Took me bloody ages to get to Aylesbury earlier today, thats only 27 miles :( |

I have seen rarely -22 here.. and I know what happens..all the mechanics become rich ;D seriously at -59 gas and coal stocks will be depleted very quickly ( if gas lines wont freeze) and half of the people will be frozen to death within few days.. and I forgot, there wont be electricty for the combis as electric lines will be cut because of contraction.. |

Tell me about it..... Getting a bit fed up with the useless drivers around here at the moment... I mean 20mph on a road we'd normally do 60 on, with no snow/ice on the road as it has been cleared by the 100's of vehicles using it >:( >:( >:( |

Seen cars doing 35mph down my road, which has not been gritted or cleared. |

As long as people panic like crazy every time they see a light dusting of snow, Britain will always be the same. I work in a supermarket and as soon as we see snow, bread and milk get wiped out in minutes and the staff can't peel themselves away from the windows thinking they won't get home and just desert the place in droves. There used to be a time when people didn't bat an eyelid when it snowed, but these days it's as if the world is about to end if we get more than a couple of centimetres >:(

I have to disagree, certainly in this area! Gritters just weren't prepared and then blame it on too few vehicles using the roads! Just a selection of reports: Icy Blast brings Town to a standstill Why were roads brought to a standstill? I mean... Some people were stranded for 12 hours by about 6" of snow FFS... Not the 2' the Yanks are dealing with :o :o :o |

I've said it before in a couple of threads... It's not really about driving slowly... It's about smooth driving and anticipation ;) ;) |
