Title: Anyone good with towbars? Post by cmeonthemove on 29. Mar 2010 at 19:23
I could do with getting the towbar fitted to my Elite. Got one off one of Daz's scrappies with single elecs. Can anyone do this for me? Cheers :y

If you were nearer ...... ;)
It's not difficult to fit. 2 bolts & long spacers up front near the diff, 2 more towards the back and 3 across the vertical back edge of the boot. If you have the towbar there you can see where they all go. The boot floor is dimpled where the holes need to be drilled, clearance on M10 bolts IIRC. That's it. Wiring is (mostly) all there in the plug/socket at the back of the boot under the trim that you've already removed while fitting the tow bar. If it's an OE type with the plate in the boot floor, scrape all the bitumin type insulation off first where it bolts down. :y |

I'm passing your way in May when I go to Snowdonia, problem is I need it fitted before then ::). Henry, you don't happen to have a wiring diagram do you? Cheers for the tips Andy. I have all the bolts and fittings, just not mechanically minded and never tinkered with electrics before! |

You don't really need a wiring diagram, you'll find the relevant colours on various posts over the years but here goes ...... again ;) Car ................. lamps ............... 12N socket black/blue ........rear fogs ............blue black/white.......left turn ..............yellow black/green ......right turn ............green grey/black.........left tail................black grey/red............right tail..............brown black/yellow......brake..................red brown...............earth...................white be aware though that the brake lights are fed via a 'relay' base for a trailer check control, so your trailer feed need to come from the actual lights or if you use the socket in the back of the boot, you'll need to bridge the base connections to get your trailer lights to work. (above the driver's feet on pre facelift & behind the glove box on facelift cars) 12S socket feeds can easily be found via Google & to a degree depends how old your caravan is as to how it's wired. :y |

Cheers Andy & all. I guessed there may have been previous posts about towbars & wiring but the search didn't seem to think so ::)
