The lacquer has peeled off the top side of the boot lip spoiler of my meega, and although it's not the end of the world, it's starting to annoy me!
Was wondering if this was the sort of job anyone could have a go at? If so, what preparation would be needed to clean and prep the spoiler?
If it is a job that should be left to a bodyshop, has anyone any idea as to how much it should cost? Just so i don't get fleeced!

I've got a bit of that going on on my bonnet. Some Jam Rolls at the local jet wash got a bit too close with the lance >:( and took some laquer off. Feathered in myself using an aerosol,not ideal but will stop anymore coming off until I can get a proper job done

highly probable ,it will continue to peel off..

seems like a bad paint job done.. this layer must be cleared completely or your money/efforts will go for nothing I'm afraid..

for the subject of painting it, personally I would advice to have it done by an adviced professional.. but you can drop the costs by sanding the complete paint yourself with 300 grid..(but very tedious job that most painters dont want to do)

ps : my estimation is its painted above the original layer ..but if mixture is not correct it cant be painted without cleaning it)

Remove spoiler
Get rid of flaky lacquer
Wet sand whole spoiler with 300 then 800 grit
Hang spoiler up so you can paint it
Wipe, wipe and wipe again with panel wipe
Wipe ONCE all over in one direction with tack rag
Apply fresh lacquer from rattle can if you're confident enough to do it
Leave to dry an hour, maybe two (depending on instructions)
Lightly dry rub with 1200
Apply second coat of lacquer
leave overnight to harden (works better in a warmer environment)
Re-fit to car!
