Title: Rear End Suspension Bushes
Post by P6UL K on 11. Nov 2010 at 21:18
Hi,

Can anyone offer any advice on the rear end and the bushes that may need replacing as i'm experiencing some knocking and general sloppyness.

Cheers

Rear donut bush guide, needs an update and simplifying but

General guide.

Plus, depends on the knocking, check the top shock mounts, sit in the back while someone else drives and reach into the back to feel the top mount, and is the exhaust loose....?

Thanks Chris, thats a great help  :)

Do you have any idea on these as posted by Razzo?

Quote:
Poly bushes for the rear subframe with old bushes in background, its a good mod & tightens up the back end nicely

In the Powerflex Poly bushes thread someone is quoted as saying they dont do poly bushes for the rear.

Perhaps they were just referring to the one company, looks like you've found someone who does polys for the rear.

Razzo is your man on that one, but I am sure he has posted the relevant info on here before.  :-/

Plus if you do them yourself, don't drop the arm, as the guide says, unless you really really have to.

Just get the old bush out, whack the new one in and bolt it back up. It's the difference between half hour a side with alot of practice, to almost half a day trying to line the arm back up with the chassis holes. But if fitting Polly they are two part, above the arm is a rubber pad, which has a Polly replacement as shown above. I would be tempted to leave the stock pad in, and just try the Polly bush on it's own first off, then drive it and see how it feels, can always do battle with lowering the arm to fit the Polly pad later if needed....?

I think for the amount of logistics involved in just getting the rear polys prob isn't worth all the agro so i'll just opt for the rear rubbers, i've got to splash the cash on new suspension now anyway so prob better spent.

If anyone is interested, the poly doughnut bushes are made by K-mac in OZ & are imported by www.regal-shop.co.uk/vauxhall
they cost about £120 all in & take about 3-4 weeks to arrive, iirc the part number was 202527, don't think they are listed on their site so may need to give em a ring

Those shown are poly bushes for the rear of the vehicle. The statement that 'rear bushes are not available' was with reference to the rearmost of the two bushes fitted to the front suspension arm.  :y

So to clarify i have Powerflex front wishbone, front ARB bushes and Febi Bilstein rear doughnut bushes.

Are there any other bushes that may need to be looked at and/or replaced?  Might as well do the job thoroughly!

I think you'll find they were referring to the rear bush on the front wishbones.  ;)

you have the main known ones to fail.
Front
wishbone bushes x2 each side.
arb x2
top shock mount, is that a bush?

rear
subframe donuts x2
arb x2 (do these if your doing rear springs as the guide, same procedure, never bothered myself')
rear of dif to chassis, worth a look.
side of dif (to chassis?or subframe? cant remember), these never fail apparently
trailing arm joint bush x2 each side, never done these but i suspect them, rightly or wrongly.

also check engine gear bix mounts if you fancy, no experience with these though.

hth
