Title: Car alarms ??? Post by tomoco on 31. Dec 2010 at 13:27
I want to fit a better sounding alarm to my Omega.
Can i fit a second alarm to the car without it being confused by the O. E. one already fitted. The powersounder died on me a few years ago which left the pathetic sounding flat circular type, now that has decided to stay on all the time so i've took that off too. I dont really want to put a replacement horn on . Is it possible to fit a louder siren type to the existing wires or can i just get another alarm and wire that in? Evering thing else on the alarm is fine, ultrasonics, imobiliser, bonnet, door and boot switches. Even the indicators flash, its just the horn itself. Any advice would be great thanks Mark :y |

if it to loud can get a fine, but there are lots of replacments you can use. just need the alarm code to fit them in from what was told... |

The horn just operates from a 12v relay, so guessing you replace it with a 12v siren, it will still sound intermittent though.

Can i change or alter the relay to make it a continous 12volt supply instead of an intermitent one ?

Not on a 2.6 though. ;) Alarm ECU is integrated with the central locking and in the driver's side kick panel IIRC. I would get a new power sounder (about £50 from stealers IIRC) and check the siren horn is OK first, as these often fail. With both sounders working they are reasonably loud, IMHO. I think you would struggle to fit another alarm to operate in conjunction with the factory one. The ultrasonic sensors might well interfere with each other for a start. A siren could be powered from the horn output of the alarm, and no doubt you could prevent it pulsing using some sort of timer. Better off leaving it standard but making sure it's up to scratch, though, IMHO. Kevin |

Thanks Kevin, i was thinking the same thing to be honest . Can you tell if a new sounder will need to be tech II'd or is it plug and play?
