Title: 2.2 omega haynes manuals Post by janine on 08. Jan 2011 at 14:12
my poor car has been sat outside the house for a while now not starting, i have had some great help from jamesv6 who came to the rescue with a code reader he is still trying to help me but due to christmas and work commitments and of coarse the great british weather i cant expect him to come to me from miles away and keep trying different things his generosity was and still is amazing, i am trying to find a haynes manual for my 2000 plate 2.2 16v auto omega so that when james can not be here then at least we can be trying things that have been suggested, i dont mind getting hands dirty but need to know what i am looking for as alot of this car is electronic where as we are used to the older cars and i dont wish to damage it any more . . . if anyone can point me in the right direction i have been to the usual shops and been told they dont do one past a 1999 plate?? have i been fobbed off????? :D :-? any help would be great many thanks :D

There is no manual specific to the facelift (post V plate or so) car, only one for the prefacelift models.
That said, the majority of the cars are essentially the same as regards running gear etc and the differences tended to be interior layout and the bonnet/bumper area. An earlier book will cover most points. :y |

Your usual shops are quite correct. Mr Haynes didn't get around to updating the manual when the facelift cars came out and don't do one for a 2.2 AFAIK most of the major bits are similar to a 2.0 4 cylinder but obviously not everything is shared. You'll have to keep asking here! ;) ;) :y |

that was really fast !!! great many thanks :o do you know if the auto gearbox on my 2.2 is the same as older ones if so do you know where the gear box sensor is as someone suggested that may be gunked up which may stop it starting?

I think someone is slightly misleading you. The only way an auto gearbox can prevent your car from starting is due to the start inhibit circuit. Your car has to be in P or N to start, but that's only connected to the starter motor circuit and if the engine is turning over, then it's nothing at all to do with the start inhibit. |

Whereabouts in Wiltshire are you ?? I'm near Swindon and have a code reader/resetter and a Haynes .. as well as a few other bits and bobs ....
Don't know much about the 2.2 but am willing to help where possible :) |

Title: Re: 2.2 omega haynes manuals Post by TheBoy on 09. Jan 2011 at 11:29
janine - consider taking up Entwoods offer if nearby, he has a generic code reader that should be able to help pinpoint it. I'm sure Entwood and Mrs Entwood will make you welcome with tea and biccies, and a good gossip.
Gearbox sensor... ...hmmm, I smell something that reminds we of the country air. Gearbox range sensor (selector switch) could stop the start motor engaging, but easily checked by looking at LEDs. |

The Haynes manual for the Omega will be OK Janine. As already stated, mechanically the 2.0 & 2.2 are basically the same. Any questions you can`t find answers to just ask on here :y |

I'll get my coat... ::)
Is the 2.2 in the vectra b basically the same lump then? Obviously some ejit put it in the wrong way round, though that's hardly the engines' fault. :-/ |

Vectra 2.2 petrol uses the same engine as the Astra, a different lump to the Omega 2.2 petrol. |

Title: Re: 2.2 omega haynes manuals Post by Entwood on 13. Jan 2011 at 11:12
Okies ... going round to Janine's tomorrow afternoon to have a try .. but I know little about the 2.2 (other than 2 pots are missing .. :) )
Obviously the first thing is to read/clear any codes and see what we find but given the fault description... Was running fine then just stopped and now won't start, fuel and spark both appear to be present .... would I be a mile off thinking camsensor ?? Is the 2.2 the same as the V6 cranksensor in that it can fail and give no code ?? Printed off this one : http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1269023974 so might just do a visual inspection on the camsensor wiring I don't want to be rushing off buying bits without solid reasons for doing so. Appears the AA man said cranksensor .. but from what I've read they are fairly bullet proof on the 2.2 ?? jamesV6 had a look and they "think" he found a TPS code ?? Any quick fixes for those ?? I think I'll take Daz's and Pete's mobile numbers with me in case I need to yell for help ... anyone else who knows the 2.2 well and will be sitting around tomorrow afternoon and who wishes to act as a "help line" .... please PM your contact numbers !!! All thoughts and suggestions gratefully accepted .. :) |

First you need to ascertain whether fuel/spark is actually present to rule out crank sensor. If fuel is present is power getting to coilpack. Cam sensor wouldn`t cause engine to just die. Cam sensor failure, car would still start eventually. TPS, car would still idle. |

Title: Re: 2.2 omega haynes manuals Post by TheBoy on 14. Jan 2011 at 10:03
On the 2.2, both the cranksensor and the camsensor have to die. The ECU is happy(ish) to work with just one (either), might just take a bit of extra cranking (4-5s).
2.2 cranksensors do fail (not as often as 2.2 cam sensors). If its got aircon, fiddly to change. |
