The auto box on my estate is giving me a headache. It changes fine at first but then goes into neutral and goes back into gear with one heck of a thump. Turn off the ignition restart and it seems to be okay. Would this be the E.C.U. or something internal.

The first thing to do is try and get a code reader connected and see if there are any fault codes.

It is also a good idea to check the transmission fluid level. See this guide:
