I have posted this again as I did not get much response any ideas anybody
The rear of my car seems very low.  The tyre goes up into the wheel arch. I wondered when I bought it whether it had some sort of sport springs fitted to lower the car. As i tow a caravan the low tow bar gives me concern. Is there any way I can check whether the springs are non standard. If I decide to fit new springs should I go for standard or heavy duty if there is such a thing for the Omega. If I change the springs do I have to get the geometry at the back checked? I have thought about the pump up air shockers are these a good way to go? If I use normal springs which make would you recommend?

Is your car saloon or estate model? as there are heavy duty springs for the estate car, i know as i have kyb heavy duty springs on my estate. :y

Well first off somebody needs to get under there and have a look. Are the springs busted? And what make? Not any writing in the springs. Check the shocks as well. Kyb are a good basic replacement. Gm are too expensive.

Ive had a look but cant see any breakage. Will weak or faulty shockers have this effect. It is low on both sides.

  Could be a case of changing the shocks and youll be fine have ya noticed a difference in the back end when going over bumps i.e is it bouncier for want of a better way of putting it as if the shocks are gone itll be dampening just on springs!
  You could also try estate springs on the back end which was suggested to me by a friend of a friend whos a mechanic its ok when fully loaded but does make the back end ride high if not coz ive done this and im changing bk to standar inna couple of weeks as it sits too high for me.

the springs control the ride height of your saloon so if it sits to low at the back (before you tow anything) then they are either completely foobared or lowered for some reason.  Fit a new pair of standard saloon rear springs(KYB are good quality. think i paid around £65 for the pair so not to bad.

Its common for rear springs to break, so not beyond the realms of possibility that both are.

Weak shocks will also do similar (reminds me, I must change mine soon ::)).


You can get heavy duty springs for saloons as well, and some members have them fitted in addition to spring assisters for towing.

Chunk of solid rubber at the top of the spring, inside. If the bottom arm is forced up enough (through carrying a heavy load and hitting road bumps) then the rubber stops metal to metal contact.

Robson - I have spring assisters fitted to my car now and along with new rear shockers it has much improved towing. For the price of some new springs or Woody2's heavy duty ones, I would go that route. My Spring assisters were from Brocott and were easy enough to fit with the wheel off.

have you had a look at the springs yet to see if they are broken? easy enough with the wheel off

I  had 2 broken springs and my back end was a little low. I`ve got the air shocks on now an they are great. I tow with mine so I just pump back end up when the weight goes on.

I checked for broken springs but only from underneath I will take a wheel off and look again. The car has only just passed the MOT but they could have missed a broken spring.
