Title: Vacuum hose to the passenger compartment? Post by deadline on 19. Jan 2011 at 11:34
2002 OPEL Omega 2.5DTI. Few months ago I had a little accident and the turbo stopped working. It was a broken vacuum hose which the guys from the auto service I went isolated and told me it's nothing to do with the engine. They didn't know what it's for because they do engines only. So I followed the hose and from the engine bay it goes in the right fender (the car is with left hand steering wheel) and than inside behind the dashboard somewhere. I have no idea what it's for, but everything works fine, though it's not connected on the engine side. what can this be?
It's not the recirc valve, it works. Thanks |

parts of your heater system are vacuum opperated eg recirc etc which is what the vacuum pipe is for. ;)

I thought so, but everything works as it did before, and as it's supposed to :o

apparently early cars just have the one reservoir, later cars have two - one by the pollen filter & the other at the very front of the car by the radiator. I believe it's to help maintain vacuum for the multirams when you're 'pressing on' ie when there is reduced vacuum in the inlet manifold. |

I'm saying BS. it's the vacuum vessel, according to the diagram. i'm sure it is. the vacuum lines are exactly like in my engine bay. so, what's the vacuum vessel for?

When your engine is idling you get more vacuum than when you have your car is flat out on the motorway. The multirams work using vacuum as do parts of the heater controls (face/floor/dash) So when your car is idling your multirams have the full amount of vacuum to operate them and enough to sort the heater out. When you're flat out, due to the reduction of vacuum, the multirams don't get the same amount vacuum to move the actuator so, the reservoir stores some of that high vacuum to help move heater controls & multirams when you're driving at high(er) speed. :y |
