Found bucket full of oil in plugs well :'(. Can anyone advise whether this is the proverbial final nail seeing as overheat was experienced. :'(

No. as it is probably the most favourite fault on an Omega;  leaking cam cover gaskets!

Straightforward to replace, along with a thorough clean of the breather system throughout ;) ;)

Like the Lovely Lizzie has already said it is your cam covers but this wont be to do with the car over heating I'm afraid :(

The oil prob was the second found well after overheating experienced, and thought it was there when OH occured.
I was'nt aware of the oil in wells untill earlier today when I went to do compression test to investigate how bad overheating had affected engine  before stripping head.

I needed to know how and what caused this additional prob as I did not fig on R C as I was thinking maybe seals had gone or by some other avenue (cracked head) :question

My thinking is obviously flawed so if you can expalin further as I was considering engine is now completely U :'(S and therefore need to move on :-/
