Title: 3.2 MV6 is an Old Man's Car
Post by JamesV6CDX on 13. Mar 2011 at 23:13
Someone please settle an argument for me here  ;)

SWMBO, considers all Omegas, including my 2002 3.2 Litre 24 Valve MotorsportV6, with sports recaro leather, nice firm suspension, excellent power and handling...... to be an OLD MANS CAR!

See pics below, (of which she can be seen looking distinctly unimpressed in one of them  :D )

And tell me.

Do I have an old man's car?   ::)

Have you changed teams James?  :o  The fella in pic 2 with the striped shirt certainly seems less than interested in the car, right enough....   ;D

Trust you Broocie.... but no, I'm afraid while your instincts are usually correct, you are wrong on that score  ;D

My better half would agree with your's James,to her ALL omegas, MV6 or no, are "old mans cars" ;D. And so what? Just cause they havent got a "prestige" badge on them and are getting on a bit in the styling department is irrelevant really. As long as continuing to own and drive your (very nice) MV6 puts a smile on your face so what?

I'm 59 ... I drive an Omega 3.2 Elite.... not an MV6 ... so if 59 is "old" then my 3.2 is an old man's car ...  :)

However .. several young men and ladies seem to be very grateful for the size and capacity of said motor, and also keep attempting to get me to break the speeding regulations when they call upon the "taxi" service .... be it a social night out or moving them from uni to home and back .... :)

I think is should be referred to as a "Family" car .. not an "old man's car"

:)

you're right Nige ....................... i's an old man's car  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  ::) ::)

but it's big & fast (if you want it to be) so who cares? It can embarrass loads of NOT old man's cars in the traffic light grande prix  ;)

Mrs Nitro has a similar opinion BUT how I get a temporary change of view is to 1.find a nice straight stretch of road,2 gently select 'S' mode,3 plant right foot firmly on loud pedal and then say " scream if you wanna go faster"but usually she can't hear me cos' she's already screaming,Dunno what that was all about but she always seems to be a much nicer person afterwards. I got my Omega when i was at Uni, I was 21 when I got it, I too had the 'old man' argument, with the people at my work. Even more so for me as its poverty spec and the smaller engine.

But when I took them down to the pub, in nice smoooth big comfy car, yet still on the bumper of my colleagues chaved up Ford Fiesta on the twisties, it shut them up  :)

My boss had the 'cool' new Megan, when he was told it was a dealer job to replace and indicator bulb, the front wheel had to come off ect.... when I showed him it was a 5 second job on mine, old man car suddenly became a whole lot more appealing!

loads of people tell me its an old mans car, but the MV6 and Sport definately dont have the plain-ness about them

i love mine, and i dont care what anyone else thinks!

Most of my colleagues have been in mine, and accept that it is a quick, good handling car.  But as it lacks a german badge, they wouldn't want one, as the badge is more important than anything else  :-X

Anyone south of 30 probably couldn't afford to insure one, so yes, it's an old man's car, but only by default.

Also don't agree that they've dated in the styling department - I think the quicker ones on low profiles look beautifully judged, beautifully proportioned.
I love looking at mine - i've had lots of cars down the years, some pretty good ones, and not many have I taken such visual pleasure from.

I agree 100% with you,the Omega lends itself really well to various  upgrades and I'm glad in a way that the boy racers can't get insured for it. [smiley=wink.gif] :y

You cant see many young people driving an Omega. In area where I am at the moment I just saw few middle age drivers in this car.
I have bought my first one when I was in Poland. That was the best decision I ever made.I'm only 28 and I dont feel I'm too young for this car ;D

It's when a model of car gets adorned with various 'just crashed through Halfords' tat and a bin for a exhaust / max power sticker you know it can only go downhill from there!

I do think the Omega has worn well, the Facelift still looks relatively modern in the average car park to me. I'm a fan of the classic saloon car shape which seems to be dying out lately, infact the only current car that meets my approval (simple really - RWD, Saloon, boat size....) is the current 5 series.

My wife is French and knows nothing about cars at all and has even less interest in them, apart from how to drive one.  That said I am 60 and know a good car when I see one and the Omega is one of the best!  Furthermore I can stuff a jukebox or pinball machine in the back with room to spare.

Yes and no imo. If I was in my 20,s and had a reasonable amount of money to spend on a car, an Omega wouldnt even be on the list tbh, but having said that they are capable of a fair turn of speed all things considered.

I don't think anyone can really deny they have the appearance of an old man's car nowadays.  I'm 22 and I'm certainly not going to pretend it's the best car on the road.

I just bought mine as a run around and for your money, you'd struggle to get much more.

But I certainly don't expect to get any compliments on its looks or power.  Most things with decent power will beat them because they are simply huge cars and made for cruising, but are very good at it.

Any car can be fun/fast, it depends how fast you drive it  ;)

Dont want to knock your sentiments but its the same car that trafpol used for quite some time and in the correct hands, is no slouch.  Times move on, obviously, but I know of instances when this grandad car swallowed the assorted front wheel drive GTi's of the era for breakfast.....   ;)

You summed it up in your last line....

Bet it can still hustle on nowadays, if driven correctly like it should be....   :P   :)

Eddi, no disrespect mate, but the V6's are in a different league to the desmonds, one of which you appear to own.
My 3.0 Elite has elicited many compliments on it's appearance, and only a few of them had their arms forced up behind their backs when they gave them.... 8-)

I had my lovely Senny 24 valve at  22, another Senny at 25, my Elite at 27, now i've got my MV6 aswell! Old mans car no way.

That view is normally for the ignorant 'keeping up with the jones' sort who don't know their a**ehole from a decent car! The same idiots who pay £££££££££ to drive a shitbox fwd shed and know nowt about cars and get ripped off because of it! Makes me laugh!

It's not such an old mans car when it's easy to work on (and cheap-ish!), fast, comfy and versatile, and destroys gay boy racers in a straightline and through the twisties (even the elite!) WOOOOOOOOOOOO

I wouldn't say that the Omega was an old mans car. I started with an Opel Monza when I was 18 and had the the first of my Omegas as company cars when I was 22. I was covering 90K miles a year at the time and the difference between the Omega and Vectra was as clear as night and day. It was exactly the car I needed at the time and I had three of them in a row after that.

It's not for everyone I'll admit but the Omega simply feels less fatiguing to drive (even my DTi!) than Vauxhall/Opel's front wheel drive replacements. Something I feel that that Vauxhall and Opel lost after 2003. :'(

Im 24 now, I think the omega is for anyone, It can do everything and thats why i brought mine, Its not the fastest car ive owned but has plently of power to enjoy. Its driven by the correct wheels and drifts for fun. Also nice to be able sit back, relax, cruise and be super comfy on long trips, Can get everyone in when you want to go away etc. What more can you want from a car  :y

I do own a 'desmond' i.e. slowmobile omega.  I feel mine is unbearably slow.  But having owned a Vectra GSi V6 for a year and experienced a 3ltr V6 in a Vectra which is lighter than the Omega, I can't imagine them being as fast as they're made out to be by some on here.  But I'm sure they don't stick around by any means.
